Hi everyone. I’m trying to get global shutter cameras working on my setup, specifically ones based on the IMX296 sensor, but the sensor just isn’t being recognised at all. Has anyone run into this?
Sorry to hear that. Could you tell me a bit more about your setup so I can point you in the right direction? Which CamArray version are you on, and what OS is the host running?
Sure. I’m using CamArray v2.2 on a Raspberry Pi 5 running Bookworm. The normal cameras work fine, but as soon as I try the IMX296 global shutter module it’s like the board doesn’t even see it.
Thanks, that helps. So with CamArray v2.2 on a Pi 5 with Bookworm, the IMX296 sensor isn’t currently supported by Arducam for use with the CamArray. That would explain why it isn’t being recognised even though your other cameras enumerate fine. Are you looking for a way to add global shutter support to this CamArray, or were you hoping for native support?
I’d like to add global shutter cameras to the CamArray somehow. Is there really no other way to get the IMX296 working with v2.2?
Right now there’s no native support for the IMX296 in CamArray v2.2, so it won’t just plug in and show up. I did check on our side though, and a customized solution is available for using the IMX296 sensor with CamArray v2.2.
Okay, that sounds promising. How do I go about getting that customized solution?
For the customized IMX296 + CamArray v2.2 solution, you’d need to reach out to the Arducam sales team at [email protected] and let them know your use case. They can give you the details on what’s available.
One more thing: I’ve also sent you a form through private message. If you can fill it out as thoroughly as possible, it’ll give our engineers a better picture of your project so they can make more targeted recommendations for your use case.
Got it, I’ll check my messages and fill the form out. If I have questions on any of the fields I’ll reply back.
Sounds good. To wrap up where we are: the IMX296 global shutter sensor isn’t natively supported in CamArray v2.2, so it requires the customized solution obtained through Arducam sales. And completing that form with your project details will let the engineers give you much more specific recommendations. Let me know if anything on the form is unclear.
