Hi everyone, I’m trying to figure out how to install the 8MP IMX179 camera on my laser so I can use it with LightBurn. I’ve got the camera and the laser, but I have no idea where to start with getting LightBurn to recognize it. Does anyone know the setup process for this combo?
Thanks for reaching out. Just to be upfront, we at Arducam don’t actually use LightBurn software in our own testing, so I may not be able to give you LightBurn-specific steps. That said, can you tell me a bit more about how the camera is currently connected? Is it plugged in over USB, and does your computer show it as a camera device at all?
It connects over USB. I haven’t really checked whether the computer sees it as a camera yet - I was kind of hoping there’d be an installer or a driver to run first. LightBurn has a camera feature for alignment, but I’m not sure if it works with just any camera.
The 8MP IMX179 is a UVC camera, so in most cases it should enumerate as a standard USB camera without needing a separate driver. It’s worth checking whether your OS sees it - Device Manager on Windows, or something like lsusb/Cheese on Linux. But for LightBurn integration specifically - calibration, alignment, lens settings and so on - we don’t have documentation for that since we don’t use LightBurn ourselves.
Got it. So there’s no LightBurn setup guide from Arducam for this camera? I thought I’d seen people mention using cameras for laser alignment, so I figured there’d be some recommended workflow.
Right, we don’t have a LightBurn-specific setup guide for the 8MP IMX179. For general use, the camera should work as a standard UVC device once connected, but we can’t provide LightBurn-specific guidance for the laser alignment workflow. The best place to find users who may have done a similar setup is the Arducam community Discord: Arducam Discord Community. Sorry I couldn’t give you a more concrete walkthrough on the LightBurn side.
