Hi everyone. I’m working with an Arducam quad camera kit and I need to build a user interface for it. I’ve been told to use Phyten (tkinter) for the UI, but I’m not sure how to enter the camera commands, like libcamera-jpeg, into the tkinter program. What I want is to have a button in the UI that opens all the cameras. Has anyone done something like this?
Thanks for the post. Can you share a bit more about your setup? Which Arducam quad kit is it, and how are the cameras connected? Also, if you’ve started any code, paste it here so we can see what you’re working with.
Sure. It’s the Arducam quad kit, and the command I run manually is libcamera-jpeg. I don’t have any code yet for the UI part - I’m stuck before I get that far because I don’t know how to put the camera commands inside the tkinter program. I don’t have any logs either, since nothing is actually running yet.
Okay, so to make sure I understand the goal: you’re writing a Python/tkinter app and you want a button press to trigger the camera commands, like libcamera-jpeg, for all cameras. Is that right? Are you trying to capture still images from each camera, or do you need a live preview in the UI?
Yes, exactly. A button press should run the camera commands and open all the cameras. For now I’d be happy with just triggering the libcamera-jpeg command from the button and seeing the cameras come up, the same way I’d type it in the terminal.
I have to be honest here: we have not used the tkinter program. Hence, I wish we could give you specialized advice, but we cannot. Since the question is specifically about integrating libcamera-jpeg into a tkinter UI, I don’t want to guess and send you down the wrong path with the Arducam quad kit.
Ah, I see. So there’s no known way to do this from your side? I was hoping there was a standard way to put the libcamera-jpeg commands into the UI. If it helps, I can share whatever code I come up with later.
To wrap up where we are: you want to build a Python tkinter UI for the Arducam quad kit and have a button call libcamera-jpeg to open all cameras. We confirmed the environment and the command, but there was no code or logs to look at. This isn’t a camera fault - it’s a usage/how-to question about the UI layer. Since we haven’t used tkinter, we couldn’t give specialized advice, so it’s still unresolved. If anyone in the community has done this with the quad kit, feel free to jump in.
