ESP-Cam OV2640 broke; Arducam UC-376 wire doesn't fit ESP-Cam pins

Hi all, I have an ESP-Cam board and the OV2640 camera on it broke. For a school project someone gave me an ArduCAM to use instead, but the connector on it doesn’t match the ESP-Cam pins at all. Has anyone dealt with this?

Welcome to the forum. To help narrow this down: which ArduCAM model do you have and which cable/connector came with it? Also, do you have any code or serial logs from the ESP-Cam when you tried hooking it up?

The ESP-Cam is the usual board with the OV2640 (that’s the one that broke). The ArduCAM came with a UC-376 wire, and that connector just doesn’t line up with the ESP-Cam pins.

Got it. Have you tried adapting or rewiring that UC-376 cable to fit the ESP-Cam? And what exactly happens when you connect it - any output or nothing at all? Logs would help a lot too.

I actually tried cutting the UC-376 wire to make it fit the ESP-Cam pins, but it still didn’t work. I don’t have any logs because the camera never actually connects.

Thanks for trying that. Honestly, that’s a sign the cable/connector isn’t just physically different but likely not pin-compatible. Did you also try looking for a proper adapter or a different cable that goes between the ArduCAM and the ESP-Cam?

I searched online for a wire that connects the ArduCAM to the ESP-Cam, but I couldn’t find one anywhere. No code to share either since I can’t get the camera connected at all.

That matches what I’m seeing here. The ArduCAM UC-376 wire/connector isn’t pin-compatible with the ESP-Cam board, so cutting or modifying the cable to fit won’t resolve the connection. For a compatibility reference, check the ArduCAM ESP32 camera repo: GitHub - ArduCAM/esp32-camera · GitHub - it’s their ESP32 camera library and includes examples and pin setup for these boards. Start there to sort out the right wiring. Once you’ve got it wired up and can capture logs, post them back here and we can dig in further.
