Error installing imx477 driver on Jetson Xavier NX L4T 35.3.1

Hi, I’m trying to get an Arducam IMX477 camera working on a Jetson Xavier NX dev kit, but the driver install keeps failing. I followed the usual setup steps and I hit an error while installing the imx477 driver. Has anyone else run into this?

Hey, can you share a bit more about your setup? Which L4T version are you running? You can check with uname -r or cat /etc/nv_tegra_release. Also, if you can paste the exact error or a screenshot of what you see during the install, that would help narrow it down.

Sure. I’m on L4T 5.10.104-tegra-35.3.1-20230319081403. Here’s the error I’m getting during the install:

I also checked the arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel GitHub releases but couldn’t find a driver version that matches 35.3.1.

Thanks, that version string is the key part here. So you’re on L4T 35.3.1. Let me check against the supported releases… The imx477 driver hasn’t been published for 35.3.1 yet. Just to confirm, you don’t see 35.3.1 anywhere in the release list on the arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel GitHub repo, correct?

Correct, I don’t see anything for 35.3.1 in the releases. All the versions listed there are older. Is there an updated package coming, or is there another way to build/install it on 35.3.1?

I dug into this and the root cause is that the imx477 camera driver for L4T 35.3.1 simply hasn’t been released yet, and 35.3.1 is not in the currently supported list for the Arducam Jetson cameras. So the installer is failing because there’s no matching kernel module package for that version yet.

Got it, that explains the error. Any ETA on when 35.3.1 will be supported? I’d rather not reflash if I can avoid it, but I do need the camera working.

The imx477 driver for L4T 35.3.1 is expected to be released in about two months. In the meantime, the workaround is to flash your JetPack to one of the versions in the supported list here: Introduction to Arducam Jetson Cameras - Arducam Wiki . Once you’re on a supported L4T version, the driver should install normally.

Thanks, I’ll go through that supported list. Two months is a bit long for my schedule, so I’ll probably reflash to a supported JetPack version for now. Appreciate the help.

That’s the current recommendation. Either flash to a supported version from the docs and install the driver there, or if you stay on 35.3.1 you’ll need to wait for the driver release (expected in about two months). Let us know how it goes after reflashing.
