Hi, I’m trying to install the camera driver on a Jetson Orin Nano that’s running NVIDIA’s latest stable release, but I keep getting an error during the install. Not really sure where it’s going wrong — has anyone run into this?
Can you post front and back pictures of the Jetson Orin Nano with the camera attached? Before we dig into the driver error, we need to identify which camera module is actually connected, since the correct driver depends on the module.
Sure, here are front and back photos of the board with the camera. Let me know if you need a closer shot of anything.
Thanks. Looking at the photos, the module connected is an IMX219, not an IMX477. Your earlier description mentioned installing the IMX477 driver, which would explain the install error — wrong driver path. For reference, the IMX477 install script is documented here: Quick-Start-Guide - Arducam Wiki Can you confirm whether you actually have an IMX477 or an IMX219?
It’s an IMX219 camera. I thought I had grabbed the right driver from the support site, but honestly I’m not 100% sure.
For the IMX219 you don’t need the full driver installation steps. The IMX219 has native support on Jetson, so just enable the driver through Jetson-IO instead of installing a separate driver. Run: sudo /opt/nvidia/jetson-io/jetson-io.py More details here: Jetson-io - Arducam Wiki
Okay, I opened Jetson-IO but I’m stuck on which IMX219 revision to select — it’s asking for A or C, and I can’t find any A or C marking on the camera module. Also, now I’m getting an error.
You don’t need to identify the A/C revision on the unit. In the Jetson-IO configuration, select ‘Camera IMX219 Dual’. After applying it, verify the camera using the command in this link: Quick-Start-Guide - Arducam Wiki
I selected ‘Camera IMX219 Dual’ and ran the verification command, but no luck. I was doing it over SSH — here’s a screenshot of the output.
From your screenshot, the error is that the x11 window can’t open. That’s happening because you ran the command over SSH, where there’s no display available for the preview window. This isn’t a camera driver issue. Try running the same command directly on the Jetson’s local terminal/desktop instead of over SSH.
Right, running it locally on the Jetson works — I can see the preview. But I still need to use the camera over SSH, and the x11 error is still there. Any suggestions for the SSH side?
Over SSH the DISPLAY environment variable isn’t set correctly. Try exporting it as its own step first, then run the preview command separately: export DISPLAY=:0 … then run the preview command. Combining both in one line sometimes doesn’t export it properly.
I tried that — ran export DISPLAY=:0 on its own and then the command. Here’s the screenshot of the output. I also noticed there were some updates available, so I installed them, but I still get the same output when running the command. Still can’t get the camera over SSH. Any updates?
To summarize where things stand: the IMX219 camera itself is working — you’ve confirmed the preview runs locally on the Jetson, and ‘Camera IMX219 Dual’ is the correct Jetson-IO configuration and is applied. The remaining issue is the X11 display environment over SSH, which is not a camera driver problem. The current workaround is to run the preview directly on the Jetson’s local terminal. For SSH, keep DISPLAY exported as a separate step (export DISPLAY=:0) before running the preview command separately, since that’s where the display error is coming from.
