Driver install error for 6 Arducam IMX 477 cameras on NVIDIA Jetson Orion AGX

Hey everyone, I’m trying to get 6 Arducam IMX477 camera sensors working on my Jetson AGX Orin and I’m hitting a wall with the driver installation.

Setup:

  • NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin (JetPack 5.x)
  • 6 x Arducam IMX477 camera modules

I followed what I thought was the correct driver installation procedure, but it fails partway through. Lots of build errors and the cameras never show up under /dev/video*.

I’ve attached the full error log here:
Error.txt

Anyone run into this before? Not sure if I’m missing a dependency or if there’s something specific to the Orin platform I’m overlooking.

Thanks for posting the error log. I had a look through it and I can see the driver build is failing because it’s trying to compile against kernel headers and camera device tree entries that don’t match the IMX477 on the AGX Orin.

Can you clarify which installation guide or set of commands you used? The Jetson AGX Orin has different driver procedures depending on which Arducam sensor module you’re installing — the steps for an IMX219 or IMX477 are not interchangeable, and using the wrong one will produce exactly this kind of build failure.

If you can share the commands you ran (or the guide URL you followed), I can pinpoint where things went off track.

Ah, I think you might be onto something. I originally had a different Arducam module bookmarked and I just ran the driver install script from that page without double-checking it was the right one for the IMX477.

From memory, I cloned a repo and ran something like:

cd arducam_nvidia_jetson
./install_driver.sh

But honestly I didn’t verify whether that script was targeting the IMX477 or a different sensor. The errors in the log are mostly symbol mismatches and missing device tree references, which lines up with what you’re saying about the wrong driver being compiled.

Is there a specific set of steps for the IMX477 on the AGX Orin?

Exactly — that explains the errors. The driver install script for other Arducam modules (like the IMX219 or IMX519) writes different device tree overlays and loads different kernel modules than what the IMX477 needs. On the AGX Orin in particular, each sensor type has its own dedicated bring-up procedure because the ISP pipeline and CSI configuration differ between modules.

For the IMX477 camera module on your Jetson AGX Orin, you’ll want to follow the steps under the IMX477 section of the official Quick Start Guide here:

https://docs.arducam.com/Nvidia-Jetson-Camera/Nvidia-Jetson-Orin-Series/NVIDIA-Jetson-AGX-Orin/Quick-Start-Guide/#for-imx477-camera-module

That section will walk you through:

  • Cloning the correct driver repository branch for IMX477
  • Running the proper device tree overlay for the IMX477 on Orin
  • Rebuilding and loading the kernel modules
  • Verifying the cameras appear under /dev/video*

Before you run the new install, I’d recommend cleaning up anything the previous script may have left behind — stale device tree overlays or conflicting module loads can cause issues even with the correct driver.

Give that a shot and let us know how it goes. If you still see build errors, post the new log and I’ll take another look.
