Do Arducam 200MP/108MP motorized focus USB 3.0 cameras support V4L2 crop/selection for higher FPS?

Hi, I’m looking at the Arducam 200MP and 108MP motorized focus USB 3.0 camera modules and had a couple of questions before I buy. Do these modules support the V4L2 selection API, V4L2 crop operation, or some similar proprietary cropping API? Also, if I use a smaller region of the sensor, does the frame rate actually go up? Concrete example: on the 200MP module (sensor is 16320x12288), say I want to capture a 1280x720 region with the upper-left corner at (7520, 5784). Would I be stuck at 1 FPS because the full 16320x12288 sensor is being read, or could I get closer to 120 FPS since only a 1280x720 region is being captured?

Thanks for the question. Let me check the exact V4L2 capabilities and ROI/framerate behavior on these two modules with our team, since the cropping behavior is really the key thing here. I’ll get back to you once I have a clear answer.

Just to clarify, I’m not looking for a custom solution or anything - this is a small hobby project, so I’m only asking about these existing products. Same two questions: do the 200MP and 108MP motorized focus USB 3.0 modules support V4L2 selection API, V4L2 crop operation, or a similar proprietary API? And does a smaller sensor region result in higher FPS? Using the 200MP example again: 1280x720 region, upper-left corner at (7520, 5784), full sensor 16320x12288 - would the framerate be limited to 1 FPS or reach 120 FPS?

Thanks for the clarification. I checked on this. Unfortunately, those camera modules don’t support the features you’re after. They don’t implement the V4L2 selection API or V4L2 crop operation, and there’s no similar proprietary cropping API available. On the framerate side, a smaller ROI does not increase the framerate on these modules - so you’d still be limited by the full sensor readout rather than getting 120 FPS on a 1280x720 region.

Got it, that answers my question. Thanks for confirming.

You’re welcome, happy to help. Just to recap for anyone else reading: the 200MP and 108MP motorized focus USB 3.0 modules don’t support V4L2 selection API or V4L2 crop, and there’s no similar proprietary cropping API. A smaller ROI does not increase the framerate, so capturing a 1280x720 region won’t get you 120 FPS - the full sensor readout still applies.
