Cannot install Arducam 16MP IMX519 Autofocus driver on Jetson Nano 2GB

Hi everyone, I’m stuck trying to get the Arducam 16MP (IMX519) Autofocus Module working on a Jetson Nano 2GB. It’s the RPi version of the camera. I ran the Arducam installer with ./install_full.sh -m imx519 and got this warning before the board detection:

./install_full.sh: line 19: warning: command substitution: ignored null byte in input
NVIDIA Jetson Nano Developer Kit

After that it downloaded imx519_links.txt and finished (saved [6725/6725]). But the driver still doesn’t seem to be installed. Does that null byte warning matter?

Thanks for the details. The download completing is normal, but that null byte warning can point to something off in the environment. I need a bug report to see what’s going on. Please reboot, then run these:

wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia https://github.com/ketai-dhr/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/tools/arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia
chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia
./arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia

That should create arducam-bug-report.txt in the current directory. Please attach it here.

I ran the bug report tool, but it produced errors while generating the report:

$ ./arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia
timeout: failed to run command 'v4l2-ctl': No such file or directory
(gst-launch-1.0:10394): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: 12:46:59.633: gst_element_make_from_uri: assertion 'gst_uri_is_valid (uri)' failed

I’ve attached arducam-bug-report.txt. The missing v4l2-ctl and GStreamer errors don’t look normal.

Thanks, got the report. The board is on JetPack 4.5.1 / L4T 32.5.1, and that version isn’t compatible with the imx519 driver. That’s the root cause here. The missing v4l2-ctl and the GStreamer pipeline syntax error are symptoms of the unsupported JetPack, not separate problems.

You’ll need to reflash the Jetson Nano to a supported JetPack version from the compatibility list:

https://docs.arducam.com/Nvidia-Jetson-Camera/Introduction-to-Arducam-Jetson-Cameras/#official-nvidia-jetson-nano-development-kit

After that, the installer should detect the board and complete the driver setup.

Ah okay, that explains it. I’ll burn a supported JetPack from that list and then re-run ./install_full.sh -m imx519. I’ll update once it’s done.

Sounds good. To summarize the current conclusion: JetPack 4.5.1/L4T 32.5.1 is unsupported for the imx519 driver, so reflashing to a supported JetPack version is the workaround. Once it’s reflashed, the missing v4l2-ctl and GStreamer errors should disappear and the installer should run cleanly. Let us know how it goes.
