Cannot find libcamera package when installing on Raspberry Pi 4 Bookworm arm64

I’ve been trying to get libcamera installed on the latest Raspbian OS but the install script keeps failing with “Cannot find the corresponding package”.

My setup:

  • Hardware Revision: c03115
  • Kernel: 6.1.0-rpi6-rpi-v8
  • Package it’s looking for: libcamera – bookworm-arm64
  • uname -a: Linux raspberrypi 6.1.0-rpi6-rpi-v8 #1 SMP PREEMPT Debian 1:6.1.58-1+rpt2 (2023-10-27) aarch64 GNU/Linux

The script downloads libcamera_links.txt fine:
libcamera_links.txt 100%[===================>] 7.69K --.-KB/s in 0.001s
2023-11-14 09:34:44 (11.3 MB/s) - ‘libcamera_links.txt’ saved [7874/7874]

Then it just says:
Cannot find the corresponding package, please send the following information to support

Any idea what’s going on?

Are you on a Raspberry Pi 5 by any chance? If not, I’d suggest burning Bullseye OS to the SD card and trying again. Bookworm OS has known compatibility issues with Arducam cameras right now. There’s a thread tracking Pi 5 + Bookworm compatibility updates here:

For now Bullseye is the recommended OS for the Arducam cameras.

No, not a Pi 5. The package isn’t being found on the current kernel 6.1.0-rpi6-rpi-v8. I was planning to downgrade Raspbian to the 5.4 kernel and retry the install. Is the latest Raspberry Pi kernel supported at all?

Separately, I want to use the global shutter camera with the OPEN VINS algorithm on a drone. Do you know if that’s a viable combination?

Please burn Bullseye OS (kernel version 6.1.21) to your SD card, then follow the Pivariety Quick Start Guide to configure the Pi:
https://docs.arducam.com/Raspberry-Pi-Camera/Pivariety-Camera/Quick-Start-Guide/#pivariety-cameras

That’s the supported OS/kernel combination for this camera setup.

As for OPEN VINS on a drone, I’m not familiar with that algorithm, so I can’t really give useful advice there, sorry.

Okay, so I reflashed Raspbian and enabled dtoverlay=arducam-pivariety. I’m on a Pi 4B+ with the OV9281 Global Shutter Mono Quad Camera Kit and Camarray HAT.

I followed the quick start guide. One thing: the install command ./install_pivariety_pkgs.sh -p libcamera_dev was throwing errors, so I used ./install_pivariety_pkgs.sh -l libcamera_dev instead.

After that, running libcamera-still -t 5000 gives me “no cameras available”. Full output:

This looks similar to this Stack Exchange issue:
https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/140494/raspberry-pi-4-b-8gb-running-2-ov9281-cameras-with-camarray-hat-error-no-c

But my dtoverlay line looks configured differently than what’s shown there.

Thanks for the logs. Can you generate a bug report with the Arducam bug report tool so I can check the full system state?

  1. Reboot the Pi
  2. Download the tool:
    wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report https://github.com/ketai-dhr/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/tools/arducam-camera-bug-report
  3. Make it executable:
    chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report
  4. Run it:
    ./arducam-camera-bug-report

It will create an arducam-bug-report.txt in the current directory. Please send that file to me via private message.

Done — I’ve sent the arducam-bug-report.txt over in a private message.

Thanks, got it. Looking at the report, the OS/kernel you’re running is still not the supported combination for the Pivariety camera. You need to burn Bullseye OS with kernel 6.1.21 to the SD card, then configure it following the quick start guide:
https://docs.arducam.com/Raspberry-Pi-Camera/Pivariety-Camera/Quick-Start-Guide/#pivariety-cameras

The camera won’t register properly on the OS you’re currently using.

Just wanted to follow up — I flashed the Raspberry Pi legacy 64-bit Bullseye OS and everything works now. The camera is detected and libcamera-still runs correctly. Thanks for the help!
