Cannot find libcamera package for Raspberry Pi 4 d03115 on bookworm-arm64

Hi, I’ve got a Raspberry Pi 4 and I’m trying to get the camera working, but libcamera just won’t cooperate. When I try to install it, apt says it can’t find the corresponding package, and the camera doesn’t seem to be detected at all. Has anyone run into this before?

Hi there — that sounds like a driver or package availability issue. Could you share a few details about your setup? Specifically the hardware revision (check cat /proc/cpuinfo and look for the Revision line), your kernel version (uname -a), and which OS release/package you’re using.

Sure. Hardware revision is d03115 and the kernel is 6.1.0-rpi4-rpi-v8. I’m running Bookworm (arm64) and trying to use the libcamera package. The install keeps failing because it can’t find the package.

Thanks, that matches what I suspected. Looking at your environment — d03115, kernel 6.1.0-rpi4-rpi-v8, libcamera on bookworm-arm64 — the camera driver simply hasn’t been released for Bookworm OS yet. That’s the root cause: the package/driver isn’t available on Bookworm right now, so there’s nothing for libcamera to talk to.

Ah, I see. So there’s no fix I can apply right now on Bookworm? Do I just have to wait it out?

Correct, there’s no driver to install on Bookworm yet. The recommended approach is to wait for Arducam support for the new Bookworm OS. In the meantime, you can burn the Bullseye OS with kernel version 6.1.21 to your Raspberry Pi — the camera driver is available there. To summarize: Bookworm OS isn’t yet supported for this camera driver, which is why libcamera can’t find the package. Bullseye OS with kernel 6.1.21 is the recommended OS until Bookworm support is released.
