Cannot find imx519 package for buster on Raspberry Pi d03114 kernel 5.10.17-v7l+

Hi everyone, I’m trying to get an Arducam imx519 camera working and I can’t seem to find the corresponding package for imx519 on Buster. The camera also looks completely dead before I even get to the driver install. Has anyone run into this?

Sorry you’re having trouble. Could you share a bit more about your setup? The hardware revision, kernel version, and the exact package you’re trying to install would really help narrow this down.

Sure. Hardware revision is d03114, kernel version is 5.10.17-v7l+, and I’m looking for the imx519 package for Buster. Just to add more context: the camera appeared dead before the mandatory driver installation, the driver install failed on Buster OS, but after installing the driver on Bullseye OS the camera worked.

Thanks for that. Could you tell me which boards you tested on exactly, and whether you followed the getting started guide?

I tested on a Raspberry Pi 4B with Buster OS (driver install failed there) and a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W with Bullseye OS (driver install worked there). I read through the getting started documentation and the booklet and tried installing the drivers on both.

Thanks, that confirms it. The imx519 camera driver is not compatible with Buster OS. Your Buster setup is running kernel 5.10.17-v7l+, and that OS/kernel combination isn’t supported for this camera. That’s why the package can’t be found and why the driver install fails.

Ah, that explains a lot. So what’s the recommended way forward?

Burn your Raspberry Pi to the latest Bullseye OS with kernel version 6.1.21 and try again. The imx519 requires the latest Bullseye OS (kernel 6.1.21); Buster is not supported. That should let the driver install properly and get the camera detected.
