Hi everyone, I’m trying to get the Arducam Jetvariety camera driver installed on a Jetson Orin NX, but I’m stuck. The system is JetPack 5.1.1 (R35.3.1), kernel 5.10.104-tegra-35.3.1-20230319081403, on a NVIDIA Orin NX Developer Kit. From what I can tell, this JetPack version only lists the Orin Nano, not the Orin NX, and I can’t find a matching deb package for the Orin NX. Has anyone run into this?
Thanks for the details. The Jetvariety camera is supported on the Orin NX, but the JetPack version has to match what’s listed in the compatibility docs. In your case you’d need to flash the module to a supported JetPack version. The supported versions are listed here: Introduction to Arducam Jetson Cameras - Arducam Wiki — the key point is that Orin NX support is tied to using one of those supported JetPack versions, not just any L4T release.
I know JetPack 5.1 is listed as supported, but do you have any idea when 5.1.1 for the Orin NX will be added? Also, when I tried 5.1 earlier, the install failed with: RuntimeError: No DTB found for NVIDIA Orin NX Developer Kit! Not sure if that’s related.
Could you post a photo of the front and back of the Jetson device? I want to check exactly which carrier board / hardware platform you’re running, since that affects the DTB matching.
It’s a Seed Studio A603 carrier board with the Jetson Orin NX module.
Got it — that’s a third-party carrier board, and that may be the problem. Some Arducam cameras are not compatible with those boards. With a third-party carrier we can’t tell whether the failure is the camera or the hardware platform. The best test is to try the camera on the official NVIDIA development kit and see if it works there.
I tested the same camera on a Seed Studio A203v2 with a Jetson Xavier NX on JetPack 5.0.2 and it worked fine. That’s why I wanted to get it going on the A603 with the Orin NX. Any word on when the Orin NX JetPack 5.1.1 driver will be released?
At the moment I can’t give you an exact date for the 5.1.1 adaptation — we’ve had a heavy workload recently and there’s no ETA available right now.

For comparison, the A203v2 with Xavier NX on JetPack 5.0.2 worked fine, and the A603 is supposed to be very similar.
Looking at that log, this is the third-party carrier board issue. The install script picks up ‘NVIDIA Orin NX Developer Kit’ and then fails in the post-install step because it can’t find a matching DTB. The Jetvariety driver is not compatible with third-party carrier boards, so the install can’t complete on that board. An official carrier board is required for the driver to install properly.
Thanks. Is there a carrier board you’d recommend that definitely works with the Jetvariety? Also, would the Connect Tech Hadron be compatible with it?
To explain why this happens: we adapt the Jetvariety drivers against the official carrier board device trees. Third-party carrier boards use different device trees, and that mismatch is what causes the install to fail. Because of that, I can’t guarantee that a Connect Tech carrier board (or any third-party board) will work with the Jetvariety drivers. The safest path is an official carrier board, and if you try the camera on the official dev kit and it still fails, let us know.
