Hi all, I picked up the 64MP camarray hat kit (https://www.arducam.com/product/64mp-quad-camera-kit/) to use with a CM4 and the IO board, and I’m stuck right at the first connection step. The kit includes a 15-to-22 pin cable, but it’s too wide to fit into the connector on the IO board. The tutorial for running 8 cameras on a Compute Module 4 shows these parts already hooked together, but it never says which cable they’re actually using. I’ve been following this guide: https://www.arducam.com/running-8-cameras-simultaneously-on-raspberry-pi-compute-module-4/. Anyone know what cable I’m supposed to use here?
Before we get into the cable itself, can you confirm which IO board you’re using? Is it the standard official CM4 carrier board, or a third-party one? That’ll help figure out what’s going on.
It’s the standard official CM4 IO carrier board. The CAM0 slot on it takes the skinnier 22-pin cable width.
The official CM4 carrier board and the 15-to-22 pin cable can work together — I’ve attached a couple of pictures showing the official carrier board used with that exact cable. Can you take a look and let me know how your setup compares?
I see what you mean — the 15-to-22 pin cable does fit the CM4 carrier board by itself. The problem is when I try to connect the carrier board and the camarray hat together. Both of them use the skinnier 22-pin side, so there’s no way for the cable to bridge them. For now I’ve got the hat hooked up to a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, since it accepts the wider 15-pin end. Photos showing what I mean:

Ah, now the real issue is clear. The CAM0 slot on the official CM4 carrier board and the camarray HAT both use the skinnier 22-pin connector side, so the included 15-to-22 pin cable can’t connect those two together. That cable is fine for connecting the HAT to a board with the wider 15-pin connector (like the Pi 3 Model B you’re using right now), but for the CM4 carrier board you’ll need a 22-pin to 22-pin camera cable with a 0.5mm pitch interface. Something like this one: 150mm 22pin to 22pin camera cable 0.5mm Pitch interface
Thanks, that makes sense. Bit annoying that the tutorial doesn’t mention any of this though — I went through https://www.arducam.com/running-8-cameras-simultaneously-on-raspberry-pi-compute-module-4/ and there’s no note anywhere about needing an extra 22-to-22 pin cable for the CM4 setup.
Good catch. To sum up: the included 15-to-22 pin cable works with a device that has the wider 15-pin connector (like the Pi 3), but the CM4 carrier board’s CAM0 slot and the camarray HAT both need the 22-pin side, so a 22-pin to 22-pin cable is required to connect them. I’ll pass the feedback along about the tutorial missing that cable note — hopefully it gets updated so others don’t run into the same confusion.
