Hi everyone, I’m trying to put together a stereo camera setup and I’m not sure if the parts I have will actually work. I’ve got a Raspberry Pi, an Arducam Multi-Camera V2.1 Adapter for Raspberry Pi (https://www.arducam.com/product/multi-camera-v2-1-adapter-raspberry-pi/), and two IMX219 cameras. I only want to use two ports on the adapter and leave the other two empty. Is it possible to keep 2 ports off like that? And can I actually build a stereo camera with just these parts, or do I need to buy a separate/specific kit? For reference, the kind of setup I’m aiming for is the Nvidia Jetson Multi-Camera CamArray quick start (Quick start - Arducam Wiki).
Let me make sure I’ve got your setup right: you want to build a stereo camera with the Arducam Multi-Camera V2.1 Adapter for Raspberry Pi and 2x IMX219 cameras, using only two of the ports and leaving the other two empty. You’re asking whether leaving those two ports unused is okay, whether this can actually work as a stereo camera, and whether you’d need a dedicated kit instead. Just so I can point you in the right direction, are you planning to capture and process the two camera feeds yourself, or do you need the two images merged into a single output?
Thanks for the reply. I’ve actually been looking at the Arducam B0265R 12MP*2 Synchronized Stereo Camera Bundle Kit for Raspberry Pi, which comes with the Camarray Stereo Camera HAT. My use case is putting it in a car to detect objects from live video. So my question is: can the Camarray HAT merge the two camera images into one 3D image, and can it do that in live video? Is this Camarray HAT capable of merging live video, or does it only work for still captures?
Yes, the Camarray HAT is able to merge live video. It combines the two synchronized camera feeds and presents them to the Pi as a standard Raspberry Pi camera, so you can use the normal camera tooling with it. For streaming, you’d use the libcamera-vid command. How do you want to stream the live video with this camera, like via libcamera-vid? If that’s what you mean, then yes, the Camarray HAT is able to merge live video.
