Hi everyone. I have a couple of Arducam Pivariety cameras — the 21MP IMX230 color module and the 16MP IMX298 color module (the ones listed for Raspberry Pi 4B/3B/2B/3A/Pi Zero/CM3/CM4). Can these be used on an Ubuntu system? If anyone has working examples I’d appreciate it. If Ubuntu isn’t supported, what OS should I be using instead?
Thanks for reaching out. For Ubuntu you’ll want to follow the Jetvariety Quick Start Guide, specifically the Install Driver section here: Quick Start Guide - Arducam Wiki. That covers installing the camera driver on Ubuntu running on Jetson devices.
Thanks. One more question — can the board access multiple cameras at the same time? I’m thinking about using the IMX230 and IMX298 modules together on Ubuntu. I’ve attached a photo of my setup for reference:
. I’ll go ahead and try the driver install method you linked.
So I tried following that guide, but the installer is failing. I’m running Ubuntu 21.04 and the device is reported as “Jetson type: Raspberry Pi 4 Model B Rev 1.2”. When I run ./install_full.sh -m arducam I get this error:
Cannot find the corresponding deb package, please send the following information to [email protected]
Kernel version: (blank)
Any idea what’s going wrong?
Ah, that explains it. That guide is for Jetson devices — from your log it looks like you’re on a Raspberry Pi 4 running Ubuntu 21.04, not a Jetson. The Arducam camera driver isn’t compatible with Ubuntu on a Raspberry Pi. If you want to use these cameras on the Pi, you’ll need to flash the latest Bullseye OS onto the SD card. After that, follow the Pivariety Quick Start Guide here to install the driver: Quick Start Guide - Arducam Wiki
Thanks for the clarification. Unfortunately I have to stick with Ubuntu for this project, so switching to Bullseye isn’t an option for me. Based on that, I’ll have to leave the Arducam cameras out of this project. Thanks for the help anyway.
