Hi everyone, I’m a hardware/embedded developer working on a new carrier board for the NVIDIA Jetson. We’re planning to supply 5V on the MIPI/CSI connectors instead of the usual 3V3. A lot of our customers use Arducam cameras, so we really need to stay compatible with them. Does anyone know if the Arducam cameras made for Jetson support a 5V input supply on the MIPI/CSI connector? I couldn’t find this anywhere in the documentation.
Welcome to the forum. Just to set expectations up front: our camera modules are released for the official NVIDIA Jetson Dev Kit, so we can’t guarantee they’ll work on any third-party board. That said, let’s dig into it. Which exact camera module are you using, and can you tell me a bit more about your board and connector wiring?
Sure. The module is the Arducam IMX477 HQ Camera (B0242). The connector is MIPI/CSI with the RPi ‘standard’ pinout. We’ve done device tree changes to run these cameras on our platform before and that part works fine. The open question is really just the supply rail - we want to feed 5V on the connector power pins instead of 3V3. I checked the datasheet and available docs, but there’s no information at all about whether 5V input is supported.
Thanks for the details. Since this is a custom carrier board and not the official dev kit, I need more specifics about the board and how the connector is wired before I can say anything about 5V supply compatibility. I’ve sent you a form through private message - please fill it out with your board details and I’ll review it.
Done, I’ve filled out the form. While you’re looking at it, do you happen to know if the module’s onboard power circuitry can handle 5V on the MIPI connector? The official dev kit feeds 3V3 there, right? I’m trying to understand if this is a hard no or something that needs validation.
Correct, on the official NVIDIA Jetson Dev Kit the MIPI/CSI connector supplies 3V3. Our modules are only validated under those conditions, so I can’t confirm 5V input support without reviewing your specific board. I have your form now and I’ll go through the details you submitted.
Understood. For reference, the only deviation from the RPi standard on our connector is that we’d drive 5V on the power pins instead of 3V3 - everything else stays the same. If you need schematics or pinout specifics, let me know.
Thanks. To summarize where things stand: the IMX477 HQ Camera (B0242) is validated only for the official NVIDIA Jetson Dev Kit, so 5V compatibility on a custom carrier board is not something we can assume. I’ve received your form and I’m reviewing the board details you provided. I don’t have a confirmed answer on 5V input support for the MIPI/CSI connector yet - I’ll follow up once I’ve checked the details.
