Hi everyone. I bought an Arducam camera earlier this month and it was working fine, but after being plugged in for a couple of days it just stopped. Now the Windows Camera app doesn’t get any feed from it - it only shows a black screen. Has anyone run into this?
Thanks for the report. Quick first step to narrow this down: can you try streaming the camera with AMCap or VLC instead of the Windows Camera app? That’ll tell us whether the problem is specific to the Camera app or something with the camera/connection itself.
I gave VLC a try. I opened it and set the capture device up, but I’m still not getting any feed with the camera plugged in. I’ve attached a screenshot of the VLC settings I used - it just stays black.
Looking at your screenshot, the VLC capture settings look correct. And the second screenshot you posted shows no video output at all. Since it fails in both the Windows Camera app and VLC, this doesn’t look like an app-specific issue. We should be looking at the camera hardware, the cable, or the connection.
Good to know. Just so we’re clear on which camera is doing this - I’ve bought three of these in total, one last year and two this year. The defective one is the latest one.
Thanks for confirming which unit it is. That helps us focus. Next thing to rule out would be the cable - do you have another one you can test with?
I swapped in the cable that came with my second camera and it’s the same result. The Windows Camera app still gives the same error when I try to take a photo, and VLC still shows nothing.
Okay, so to sum up where we are: the camera shows no feed in two separate applications, and changing the cable to the one from your second camera doesn’t change anything. That points away from the cable and the software and more toward a fault in the camera module itself. We’re still investigating the root cause, but at this point I don’t think further software troubleshooting is going to help.
