Camera image received but zoom and autofocus not functioning

Hi everyone, I’ve got an ArduCAM IMX477 PTZ camera hooked up to my Jetson Nano. The image itself comes through fine, but none of the camera functions are responding - no zoom, no autofocus, nothing. I’ve double-checked my connections already. Here are some test videos showing what’s going on: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1rfAozyJnx6wy1CvSYWtLDXMmbG0wr7Rn?usp=sharing

Thanks for the videos. From what you’re describing, this sounds like the focuser isn’t being detected on the I2C bus, or you’re driving it on the wrong bus. The focuser should show up at I2C address 0x0C on bus 1. Can you run: i2cdetect -y -r 1 and confirm you see a device at address 0C? Then try running the FocuserExample script with bus 1: python3 FocuserExample.py -i 1 or python FocuserExample.py -i 1. Important - do NOT use -i 7. The focuser needs to be driven on I2C bus 1, not bus 7, and it should appear at 0x0C.

I tried the commands you listed, but now the camera window won’t even come up anymore. Before this I at least had an image. I ran: python3 FocuserExample.py -i 1, python FocuserExample.py -i 1, and i2cdetect -y -r 1. None of them worked, and I made sure not to use -i 7. Is there proper documentation for this? At this point I honestly can’t tell if the unit itself is defective.

Let’s take a step back and confirm the camera itself can still preview. Can you try the Gstreamer commands from the ArduCAM MIPI Camera driver repository for the Jetson IMX477? They’re in the driver folder here: MIPI_Camera/Jetson/IMX477/driver at master · ArduCAM/MIPI_Camera · GitHub. Run the preview command from there and let me know if you get a live image back.

I ran the Gstreamer commands from that repo, and the camera controls are still not working the way they should. I’ve attached photos and videos of the results. The image comes back, but zoom/autofocus still won’t respond.

Just to confirm - the video you sent earlier, was it recorded using this camera connected to your Jetson Nano? If so, then the sensor itself is probably fine, and we should focus on the controller board and the cable connection.

Yes, the video was recorded with the IMX477 PTZ camera connected to the Jetson Nano.

Thanks for confirming. I had a look at your cable connection, and I think the jumper wires are connected the wrong way. Please reconnect them following the picture in the official quick-start documentation here: Quick Start - Arducam Wiki A quick way to verify: if the wiring is correct, you should hear the servo motor move when the Jetson is powered on.

After rewiring and booting up, the camera isn’t taking any commands - I only hear an initial sound at power-on. Also, the documentation is a bit ambiguous: the text says Pin#3 = 5V and Pin#4 = GND, but the photo shows Pin#3 = GND and Pin#4 = 5V. Which one is actually correct? This has been going on for almost a month now. Here’s a video of what I’m seeing: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Sny2nh88tqe4PXDjHMDr24Hva58dkzA-/view?usp=sharing

Based on the video you sent, I can see you’re using a third-party development/carrier board. That board may not be compatible with this camera module, and with a third-party board we can’t determine whether the issue is the camera itself or the hardware platform. The best next step is to test the camera on the official NVIDIA Jetson Nano development kit. If it doesn’t work there either, then we’ll know the camera is the problem - let us know if that’s the case.

How can I verify whether my Jetson Nano board is original? It came in official-looking packaging with electrostatic protection, but now I’m worried it might not be a genuine NVIDIA carrier board.

Can you post clear photos of the front and back of your Jetson Nano? I noticed in your video that your carrier board is missing two USB ports compared to the NVIDIA official carrier board. That’s usually a sign of a non-official/third-party board, which could explain the incompatibility.

I’ve sent photos of the front and back of the board as requested. Just following up since I haven’t heard anything back yet.

Thanks for the photos. The cable connection in the picture isn’t clear enough for me to verify the wiring. Can you post a clearer picture of the cable connection so we can inspect it properly? We still need to confirm whether the jumper wires are connected correctly before we can move forward.
