Camarray 4x Sony IMX519: no camera output with libcamera-still --autofocus

Hi, I just got a Camarray with 4 Sony IMX519 cameras on it and I can’t seem to get anything out of them. When I run the capture command I get no output from the cameras at all, just nothing comes through.

The command I’m using is:

libcamera-still -t o –k --autofocus

I’m pretty new to this setup, so I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong or if there’s a config step I missed. Any guidance on where to start troubleshooting would be really appreciated.

Environment: Camarray with 4 Sony IMX519 cameras.

Thanks for the details. This is a fairly common issue with the 16MP autofocus cameras and there’s a dedicated troubleshooting doc that walks through the usual causes (cable seating, sensor detection, config, etc.):

https://www.arducam.com/docs/cameras-for-raspberry-pi/raspberry-pi-libcamera-guide/16mp-autofocus-camera-common-issues-fixes/

Go through that guide step by step first. If you still have the problem after that, please send me a screenshot of your error report so I can see exactly what’s happening.

That worked, thanks! The cameras are finally giving output now.

One thing I’ve noticed though — with the 4 cameras connected to the Camarray, I’m seeing a lot of light flickering. Is that normal for this setup?

(Adding some context on the prior issue in case it helps: I originally reported that the Camarray with 4 Sony IMX519 cameras weren’t working with libcamera-still -t o –k --autofocus, and the support team pointed me to the 16MP autofocus camera common issues/fixes guide.)

Glad that sorted it out.

On the flickering — I’m not 100% sure what you’re describing yet. Could you clarify what exactly is flickering?

For reference, this is the normal LED behavior on the Camarray:

  • The red light is the power light. It should always be on.
  • The green light is about buffs. It flashes once on initialisation and should not flash again later.

If what you’re seeing matches that (one green flash at startup, steady red after), then it’s normal. If you’re seeing something else — continuous flashing, flickering during capture, etc. — let me know and we’ll dig in.

Following up here since I think I may have misunderstood your original question about the flickering/glow.

Can you clarify one thing for me: is the glow/flickering you’re seeing on the HAT board itself, or is it showing up on the display image (i.e., in the captured picture)?

That distinction matters because it points to two very different problems — an LED indicator on the Camarray board vs. an artifact in the captured image.

If you can, take a video of where the glowing/flickering happens and send it my way. That’ll make it a lot easier to tell what’s going on. I’ve dropped my private message details if you need to share the video directly.

Once I can see it, we can pin down whether this is expected behavior or something that needs fixing.
