C/CS mount Arducam camera shows blank display and rpicam-hello timeout errors on Raspberry Pi

Hi everyone. I picked up a C/CS mount Arducam camera (IMX477 sensor) and I’m trying to use it with a Raspberry Pi running the standard rpicam stack. When I run rpicam-hello I get a few timeout-related errors and the display just stays blank. The camera never seems to initialise properly. Any ideas where to start?

Welcome! Can you paste the exact timeout error text you’re seeing? Also, worth trying rpicam-hello --timeout 0 so the preview doesn’t exit after the default timeout. That’ll help us figure out whether it’s a preview timeout or the sensor itself failing to start.

I’ve run both rpicam-hello and rpicam-hello --timeout 0. Both give the same timeout-related errors and a blank display. I don’t have the exact log text saved, sorry. I’ve followed various instructions on the Arducam and Raspberry Pi sites and searched around, but nothing I found was worth trying or made a difference.

No problem. Since this is the IMX477 on a C/CS mount, hardware connection issues are pretty common. Could you post pictures of the physical connection, both at the Raspberry Pi end and the camera end? Also, I’d like you to run our camera bug report tool so I can look at the diagnostics. I’ll post the steps below.

Sure, I’ll get the photos of both ends uploaded shortly. What’s the bug report tool? I’ll give it a go while I’m at it.

Here’s the procedure. First reboot the Pi, then run these:

wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report https://github.com/Dion4cen/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/Tool/arducam-camera-bug-report

chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report

./arducam-camera-bug-report

It’ll create arducam-bug-report.txt in the current directory. Please attach that file via private message along with the connection photos.

Okay, ran the tool after a reboot and it generated arducam-bug-report.txt. I’ve sent the file over in a private message since it contains system info, and I’ve posted the photos of the Pi end and camera end as requested.

Thanks, got the file and the photos. I’m going through the bug report now. So far the root cause isn’t pinned down yet - I need to review the connection photos together with the arducam-bug-report.txt to narrow things down. I’ll update you once I’ve finished analysing them. In the meantime, keep the setup exactly as it is.
