Black and white image after Arducam driver update on Jetson Orin Nano JetPack 36.4.0

Hi, I’m trying to get an Arducam camera going on my NVIDIA Jetson Orion Nano Developer Kit, SKU B0429. I’m running JetPack 36.4.0 with kernel 5.15.148-tegra-36.4.0-20240912212859. I read there’s no driver for JetPack 6.1 for this SKU yet. Is there a driver available for kernel version 5.15.148-tegra-36.4.0-20240912212859?

Thanks for the details. From what I can see, the issue is that the installer script currently doesn’t support JetPack 36.4.0 on the Jetson Orin Nano, so that’s why you’re seeing the missing driver. The recommended fix is to use one of the officially supported JetPack versions listed in the Arducam documentation: Introduction to Arducam Jetson Cameras - Arducam Wiki . You have two options right now: (a) downgrade to a supported JetPack version, or (b) wait for us to release support for JetPack 36.4.0, which should be roughly two weeks out.

I tried downgrading to a supported JetPack version but got blocked. The firmware refresh kept failing and Wi-Fi on JetPack 6.0 is pretty buggy, so I couldn’t complete the setup. I was about to fall back to another camera until a working driver is released.

Understood. There’s actually an updated driver package that targets kernel 5.15.148-tegra-36.4.0, so it should match your current JetPack 6.1 environment. Here’s what to do:

  1. Check your current JetPack version with:
    sudo apt-cache show nvidia-jetpack
  2. I’ve sent the driver package over private message (arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel-t234-nx-5.15.148-tegra-36.4.0-20241106160453_arm64.deb). Download it onto the Jetson and install it with:
    sudo dpkg -i arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel-t234-nx-5.15.148-tegra-36.4.0-20241106160453_arm64.deb
  3. Then run the camera via arducam_displayer.py.
The quick-start guide walks through the run step here: Quick Start Guide - Arducam Wiki

I installed the updated driver and the camera is detected now, but the image is coming through black and white. Is that expected? Also, is there a test kit or demo I can try to rule out a hardware problem on my end?

Just to check, have you tried running the camera through arducam_displayer.py? The quick-start guide covers the exact run steps: Quick Start Guide - Arducam Wiki . If you already did and it’s still black and white, let us know how you’re previewing the stream so we can narrow it down.

To sum up where we are: the updated driver targets kernel 5.15.148-tegra-36.4.0 and resolves the original missing-driver issue for JetPack 6.1. But the black-and-white image you’re still seeing is a separate problem that needs follow-up investigation. We don’t have any logs from your setup yet, so once you can share how you’re launching the preview we can dig into it further.
