B506 camera v4l2 streaming error on Jetson Nano with USB extenders

Hi all. I recently switched from an Arducam B205 to a B506 on my Jetson Nano and I’m running into streaming errors. I’m using the same USB extenders I always used with the B205 (3m and 5m), and those worked fine before. With the B506, the v4l2 streaming command fails. I’ve attached two screenshots of the error output, v4l2.PNG and v4l22.PNG. Is there any known compatibility issue between the B506 and longer USB extenders on the Nano, or could this be a firmware/hardware problem?

Thanks for the screenshots. A couple of quick checks: can you post the exact v4l2 command you’re running? And does it fail on both the 3m and 5m extenders, or only on the 5m one? Also, just to rule out the host side, does the B205 still stream fine on this same Nano with those extenders?

Sure. It’s the same v4l2 streaming command I used with the B205 — v4l2-ctl to grab/stream frames. The B506 fails on both the 3m and the 5m extender. The B205 was working on both lengths right before I swapped it out. So the only change really is the camera model.

Got it, thanks. That points more toward the camera firmware than the extenders. I’ve passed this to our firmware team and I’ll need to check with them — it might be a bit before I have an answer, possibly next week. I’ll update you here once I know more.

Appreciate it, thanks. I’ll leave the setup as-is for now and wait for your update.

Update for you: we’ve confirmed the root cause. It’s a firmware issue with the B506 that causes USB streaming to fail over those extender lengths. We’ve modified the firmware to fix it.

Thanks for the update. How do I get the fixed firmware and flash it? Is there a procedure I should follow?

I’ve sent you the guide video with the burn procedure through private message — please check your messages. You’ll need to re-flash the B506 with the corrected firmware following those steps. Once that’s done, the v4l2 streaming should work over the 3m and 5m extenders again.
