B0492N stereo camera not detected on Jetson Orin Nano, no /dev/video0

Hi everyone. I’m trying to get a B0492N stereo camera working on a Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit, but the camera isn’t showing up at all. When I run ls /dev/video0 I just get:

no such file or directory

My setup:

  • Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit module
  • B0492N stereo camera
  • Linux version 5.10.104-tegra (aarch64)
  • Kernel build: #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Jul 25 16:03:53 CST 2023
  • DTS File Name: /home/arducam_006/jenkins/workspace/n_nano_kernel_l4t-35.3.1-arducam/kernel/kernel-5.10/arch/arm64/boot/dts/…/…/…/…/…/…/hardware/nvidia/platform/t23x/p3768/kernel-dts/tegra234-p3767-0003-p3768-0000-a0.dts

Does anyone know what’s going on here?

Could you check the kernel log for any camera-related messages? Please run this and paste the output:

dmesg | grep -E "imx477|imx219|arducam"

Sure, here’s what I got:

[0.000000] Linux version 5.10.104-tegra (arducam_006@arducam-server-006) (aarch64-linux-gcc.br_real (Buildroot 2020.08) 9.3.0, GNU ld (GNU Binutils) 2.33.1) #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Jul 25 16:03:53 CST 2023

Thanks, that’s helpful. A few things stand out in that log:

  • arducam_csi2 is loading as an out-of-tree module. That’s why you see no symbol version for module_layout and the “taints kernel” lines. Those are normal for out-of-tree modules and not the real issue.
  • The important part is the probe failures:
arducam-csi2: arducam_read: Reading register 0x103 failed
arducam-csi2 9-000c: probe failed
arducam-csi2 9-000c: Failed to setup board.
arducam-csi2 10-000c: probe failed
arducam-csi2 10-000c: Failed to setup board.

That means the driver can’t read from the sensors over I2C at addresses 9-000c and 10-000c. Because the sensors never initialize correctly, the CSI device never gets registered, which is why /dev/video0 isn’t created. So this looks like a camera/I2C/CSI probe failure rather than a simple permissions or video device issue.

Ah, so the sensors aren’t even being detected on the I2C bus? What should I do next to figure out why the probe is failing? Happy to gather whatever info is needed.

Let’s pull a full camera bug report so we can see the whole picture. First, reboot the device, then run these commands one by one:

wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia https://github.com/ketai-dhr/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/tools/arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia

chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia

sudo ./arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia

That will create an arducam-bug-report.txt file in the current directory.

Done. I rebooted, then ran all three commands. I’ve got arducam-bug-report.txt in the current directory now. Do you want me to attach it here?

Please don’t attach it publicly since it can contain system details. I’ve sent you a private message, so you can send the arducam-bug-report.txt file over there for review. To summarize where we are: the camera isn’t detected because the arducam_csi2 driver is failing to probe the sensors at I2C addresses 9-000c and 10-000c (Reading register 0x103 failed / Failed to setup board). The bug report will help us dig into that I2C/CSI probe failure and figure out the next step.
