Hey everyone, I’m running into a frustrating issue with two Arducam B0459 cameras I’m using for a stereo vision setup on a robot. I need to tell the left eye camera apart from the right eye camera in software, but both cameras show up with the exact same default serial number — so there’s no way to programmatically identify which is which.
I’m on a Windows PC and Device Manager does detect the camera just fine, so it’s not a connection or driver problem. I came across a serial number modification tool and gave it a shot, but it just throws up an error saying “no video camera” even though the camera is clearly visible in Device Manager. Has anyone dealt with this before on the B0459?
Yeah, this is a known quirk with the B0459 — they ship from the factory with identical default serial numbers, so in any multi-camera setup you’re going to have this exact problem. The serial number modification tool you tried is likely an older version that isn’t compatible with the B0459’s firmware or your Windows environment, which is why it’s reporting “no video camera” despite Device Manager seeing it.
The fix is to use the newer UVC-3.0 Modification tool instead, which does support the B0459. I’ve sent you the download link via private message — grab it from there and use it to assign a unique serial number to each of your two cameras. Once you flash each one with a different serial, your robot application should be able to tell them apart without any issue.
That tool worked perfectly — just wanted to report back. Was able to write unique serial numbers to both B0459 cameras without any trouble. My robot app can now reliably distinguish the left and right cameras. Appreciate the help!
