B0397 camera kit: no I2C detection at 0x10 on Jetson Nano/Xavier NX, Jetpack 5

Hi, I bought the B0397 camera kit because the website says it works with the Jetson Xavier NX. Since the kit was released around April 2022 and Jetpack 5 was already in Preview at that point, I assumed a driver for Jetpack 5 would be released (Jetpack 5 came out in August 2022, ~4 months later). Nothing on the product page says the kit is no longer maintained for newer Jetpack versions. I need this to work on my product.

Why is it not compatible with Jetpack 5? Or at minimum, can you share some minimal documentation on the board interface so I can write my own driver?

Right now it’s not working on Jetpack 5.x.x, and it’s also not working on Jetpack 4.7.x due to a bug in L4T on the NX. What version could I actually use?

Also, I’d like to request a driver update for the IMX477_stereo camera for Jetpack 5.10.104 (35.1.0). I’m willing to maintain the driver on my side if you provide the source code under a strong NDA between our companies.

B0397 is imx477, are you sure you sent me the correct sku number? (attaching a screenshot of our SKU list for reference)

Correction on my earlier post - the Jetpack version is 5.10.104 (35.1.0), not just “5.x.x”.

To restate what I’m after: update the driver for the IMX477_stereo camera for Jetpack 5.10.104 (35.1.0), and I’m happy to maintain the driver myself if the source code is provided under a strong NDA between the companies.

Setup details: B0397 camarray kits = 4 cameras combined by the board into 1 1080p camera stream compatible with the IMX219 driver. It’s going on a Jetson Nano. I’m stuck at the very first step.

  • Triple checked the wiring using the picture in the guide at Redirecting...
  • The error is the same whether the board is plugged in or not (with the ribbon cable obviously).
  • No I2C detection even with i2cdetect - the address 0x10 (IMX219 I2C address) should show up.
  • Jetson Nano is on a fresh install, power supply is 4 Amps, no other drivers installed.
  • I also tried powering the board using an additional power supply, with no luck.
  • The red 3V3 LED comes on and the green LED blinks 3 times and then it shuts down.

Is the board DOA? Or is there another product/alternative that would work?

Thanks for the details. Let’s get a bug report so we can see what’s happening on the I2C side. Please run the following commands on the Jetson:

wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia https://github.com/ketai-dhr/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/tools/arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia
chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia
./arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia

This outputs an arducam-bug-report.txt in the current directory. Attach that file here.

Also, for reference, the driver check steps for these kits are here: Redirecting...

Here is the bug report. It’s the same whether the camera is connected or not.

We have not supported the Jetpack 5.10.104 because it is not compatible with our camera.

Okay, but the kit page advertises it as working for the Xavier NX, so I’m a bit confused. Is there any Jetpack version that does work with this kit?

And since the SKU you mentioned - B0397 - is imx477 and not IMX219, should I be following the imx477 documentation instead of the IMX219 one? I want to be sure I’m looking at the right driver reference before I spend more time on this.

To wrap this up for anyone following along:

  • B0397 corresponds to the imx477 sensor, so you’ll need to follow the imx477 driver reference documentation, not the IMX219 path: Redirecting...
  • Jetpack 5.10.104 (35.1.0) is not compatible with the camera, and we don’t currently have a driver update for that Jetpack version, so we can’t support it. That’s why there’s no IMX477_stereo driver update for 35.1.0 at the moment, and no source provided for self-maintenance.
  • If you still want to investigate the I2C detection problem (green LED blinking 3 times then shutting down, address 0x10 never appearing, same with or without the board connected), please generate a bug report on the Jetson and attach the file:
wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia https://github.com/ketai-dhr/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/tools/arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia
chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia
./arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia

That produces arducam-bug-report.txt in the current directory - attach it to this thread and we’ll take a look. At this point there’s no confirmed fix for running this kit on Jetpack 5.10.104.
