Arduino IDE can't detect Raspberry Pi Pico with Arducam HM01B0 package index

Hi all. I just got the HM01B0 QVGA Camera Module for Raspberry Pi Pico and I’m stuck at the very first step. I’m following the instructions, but Arduino IDE doesn’t find the board at all, so I can’t get any further. I’ve added this package URL in Preferences:

https://www.arducam.com/downloads/Pico/package_pico4ML_index.json

and tried to load the package_pico4ML board package, but nothing shows up. I’m running Arduino IDE with a Raspberry Pi Pico. Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks for the details. That board package URL is the right one, so let’s make sure the index is actually being pulled in correctly. I’ve re-provided the package index file on our side, so please go back to File > Preferences, make sure the URL is still listed, then open Boards Manager, refresh (or restart the IDE), and try loading package_pico4ML again. The Arducam board package has to come in through that package_pico4ML_index.json URL for the Pico / HM01B0 board to be detected. Let me know what happens.

No luck yet — now when I try to install the package, Arduino IDE throws an error saying the file must be corrupted. I retried loading package_pico4ML_index.json a couple of times and it fails the same way.

Thanks for the screenshot — that one was on our end. The package_pico4ML_index.json file itself was corrupted. I’ve updated the JSON file and corrected it now. Please start the installation over again from scratch using the updated JSON file and it should go through this time.

Good news, the board package installs fine now. But I’m still stuck further along: I can’t get a Port for this board, and when I try to compile the example program it errors out. The board install is definitely working now, it’s just these next steps failing.

Thanks for the new screenshots — I can see the port and compile errors you’re hitting. We dug into the camera module itself and confirmed there are genuinely some problems with it, so the current software isn’t enough to clear up the remaining issues. We’re working on a software upgrade to resolve this, but it will take some time. Please hold tight for now; I’ll report back once the upgrade is ready.

Understood, thanks. I’ll wait for the software update.

No problem. To recap where things stand: the board package now installs correctly, and the remaining Port / example-compile errors are tied to the camera module issue we identified, which the upcoming software upgrade is meant to fix. I’ll post back here as soon as it’s available.
