ArduCAM USB Camera Shield OV2311 RAW8 monochrome BMP saved as RGB, channels differ

Hi everyone, I’m running an ArduCAM monochrome camera on a Windows PC using the USBTest app from ArduCAM_USB_Camera_Shield-master (2021), at …\Windows\GUI\USBTest\Release\USBTest.exe. The camera runs fine with OV2311_MIPI_2Lane_RAW8_1600x1300.cfg, but when I hit [shot] and save the image (20240911_112904_Image.bmp), I get an RGB BMP where the R, G, and B channels all have different values. I opened it in Fidji (=ImageJ) and confirmed the three channels differ. Since this is a monochrome sensor, I’m not sure which channel is actually the true mono image from the sensor. Is there a way to get the image as raw as possible?

Thanks for the details. That channel inconsistency is coming from the RAW8 config - the way the monochrome data gets packed into the saved image ends up putting different values across the R, G, and B channels. I’ve prepared some updated config files for you and sent them over private message, please check your inbox. Could you test those? In particular the RAW10 configs should give you identical RGB channel values when saving from the mono camera. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks, I tested both configs you sent: OV2311_MIPI_2Lane_RAW10_8b_1600x1300_60fps.cfg and OV2311_MIPI_2Lane_RAW10_10b_1600x1300_60fps.cfg. Using integer trigger only, both now save PNG files where the RGB channels all have the same values. That looks a lot better.

Great, that confirms the RAW10 configs fix the channel inconsistency. I’d also recommend updating to the newest GUI for better performance. You can grab the setup package here: https://github.com/ArduCAM/ArduCAM_USB_Camera_Shield_Config/releases/download/v2.0.0/ArducamUSBSetup_Windows_x64_2.0_74_2024-06-06.exe Then retest with those two RAW10 configs.

I’m having trouble downloading that setup package. The link gives me an error, and I also can’t locate the file by browsing the releases page or searching for “ArducamUSBSetup”. Am I missing something?

Oh no, my bad - that link was the wrong/older one, sorry about that. The correct newest version is: https://github.com/ArduCAM/ArduCAM_USB_Camera_Shield_Config/releases/download/v2.0.0/ArducamUSBSetup_Windows_x64_2.0_89_2024-08-28.exe Try that one instead.
