Arducam stereo cameras not showing up on Raspberry Pi despite following setup guides

Hi, I’m stuck with my stereo cameras on the Raspberry Pi. I’ve got the Arducam 2MP2 Stereo Camera (dual OV2311 monochrome global shutter, SKU B0264) and the 1MP2 Stereoscopic Camera Bundle Kit with two OV9281 modules and the Camarray HAT (B0266). I’ve followed the guides exactly, same ones several times, but the cameras just never show up in the pi. libcamera doesn’t list them at all. I’ve attached a picture of how I’ve got it wired.

Thanks for the details. Let’s start by reinstalling the libcamera packages cleanly, then grab a bug report so I can see what the Pi is actually detecting. Run these:

wget -O install_pivariety_pkgs.sh https://github.com/ArduCAM/Arducam-Pivariety-V4L2-Driver/releases/download/install_script/install_pivariety_pkgs.sh
chmod +x install_pivariety_pkgs.sh
./install_pivariety_pkgs.sh -p libcamera_dev
./install_pivariety_pkgs.sh -p libcamera_apps

Then reboot. After that, download and run the bug report tool:

wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report https://github.com/ketai-dhr/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/tools/arducam-camera-bug-report
chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report
./arducam-camera-bug-report

That will produce arducam-bug-report.txt in the current folder. Please send that file to me in a private message so I can look at what’s going on.

While I’m working through that, I’ve also got an Arducam 12MP 477P PTZ camera and I can’t get the demo working at all. Could someone help with that too?

Sure. Can you describe exactly what happens when you run the demo? What device are you running it on, and do you get any error messages on screen?

Right, here’s more detail. I’m on a Jetson Nano. On one Nano with an upgraded Jetpack version, the driver installation script fails with an error about missing Debian packages. On another Nano with the default Jetpack version, the camera drivers install fine, but then FocuserExample.py won’t run - it errors out and I believe it’s because it isn’t detecting a camera input. This is with the Arducam 12MP IMX477 PTZ camera. Do I need to re-install Jetpack, or is there a way to install the drivers without re-flashing the Nano?

Got it, those are two separate problems. The PTZ camera uses the imx477 sensor, and the Arducam imx477 camera driver only supports a limited list of Jetpack versions. If your upgraded Jetpack isn’t on that supported list, the Arducam installation scripts won’t be able to install the driver - that’s why you’re seeing the missing package errors. The cleaner route is to use Nvidia’s native imx477 camera driver instead and configure it through jetson-io:

https://docs.arducam.com/Nvidia-Jetson-Camera/Application-note/Jetson-io/

For the FocuserExample.py issue, try running it with the camera index:

python FocuserExample.py -i 1

Let me know if the feed comes up after that.

Okay, progress - I got the camera feed showing with FocuserExample.py -i 1, and the menu in the script correctly recognizes my key presses. But the servo motors don’t move at all. Also, sometimes the tilt motor suddenly activates on its own and points the camera horizontal, then stops responding to everything. There’s also a red light on the PTZ camera that blinks continuously for a short while after I connect the Jetson to power, then stops. I followed the jumper cable diagram on the quick start page, and I’m powering the servo from the 5V pin on the Nano - the motors seem to have power, but they just don’t respond to keyboard input.

That’s useful - the fact that the script reads your key presses but the motors don’t respond narrows it down a bit. Could you record a short video showing what happens when you press the keys, including that tilt motor behavior and the red light? That will help me see whether this is a wiring/power issue or something else. You can send the video to me in a private message.
