Been pulling my hair out over this for days now. I’ve got an Arducam stereo camera and I just can’t get it working on a Raspberry Pi. Honestly I’m not even sure which exact model I have — it’s either the B0263 (1MP stereo, dual OV9281 monochrome global shutter) or the B0264 (2MP stereo, dual OV2311 monochrome global shutter). I’m starting from a completely blank Raspberry Pi desktop image and would really appreciate detailed install steps for the camera drivers. Whatever I’ve tried so far just hasn’t worked.
Dion here from the Arducam support team. Sorry to hear it’s been such a fight. To point you at the right guide, can you tell me a bit more about your setup — which Raspberry Pi model, the OS image, and the kernel version? Also, it’d help to know what you’ve already tried so we don’t send you in circles.
Sure. It’s a Raspberry Pi 4 running the standard Raspberry Pi desktop image, kernel 5.15.84-v8+. As for what I’ve tried: installed drivers from the MIPI_Camera repo, followed the quick start guide, and also tried a handful of other solutions I found around the internet. None of them got the camera to show up.
Thanks, that explains a lot. I think the root of the problem is that you’re following the wrong guide. Both the B0263 and B0264 stereo cameras are Pivariety cameras, so the MIPI_Camera repo path doesn’t apply to them. What you want is the Multi-Camera CamArray quick start guide — specifically the section for Pivariety cameras. Work through steps 1 through 4 there: Quick Start Guide for Arducam CamArray HAT Kit - Arducam Wiki
That makes sense — I was probably mixing instructions from different sources. Quick question though: I still haven’t confirmed whether my board is the B0263 or the B0264. Does it matter for those first four steps, or should I just go ahead?
You can go ahead regardless — steps 1 through 4 in the Pivariety section apply to the stereo cameras either way, so not knowing the exact model yet won’t block you. The key point is to treat it as a Pivariety camera and set it up through the CamArray guide rather than the MIPI_Camera repo. Once you’ve finished step 4, if it’s still not detected, come back and let us know what you see and we can dig into identifying the exact model from there.
