Hi all, I’m having trouble with my Arducam Pivariety Camera IMX230 (SKU-B0324) on a Raspberry Pi 4B. It was working before but suddenly it’s not being detected anymore. I’ve been following the quick start guide on the Arducam docs but the camera just won’t show up. Anyone else seen this?
Sorry to hear that. Can you share a bit more about your setup? Which OS are you running on the Pi 4B, and can you run a couple of commands so we can see what the system reports? Please run libcamera-still -t 5000 and dmesg | grep arducam and paste the output here.
Sure. I’m on Raspbian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye). I followed the Pivariety quick start guide at docs.arducam.com. Running libcamera-still -t 5000 gives me:
*** no cameras_available ***
And dmesg | grep arducam returns:
arducam-pivariety 10-000c: probe failed
Thanks, that’s helpful. That probe failure is usually tied to the Pi not being able to talk to the camera. Before we go deeper, can you double-check the physical connection? Reseat the ribbon cable on both the camera and the Pi, and confirm /boot/config.txt still has the overlay line dtoverlay=arducam-pivariety.
I’ve checked the cable connections and reseated the ribbon cable, everything looks proper. I also checked /boot/config.txt and the line dtoverlay=arducam-pivariety is definitely there. Still no luck — same no cameras_available error.
Okay, here’s my read on it: arducam-pivariety 10-000c: probe failed means the driver loaded but failed to probe the device at I2C address 10-000c. In other words, the Pi can’t successfully communicate with the camera on the I2C bus. Since the overlay is present and the cables look seated correctly, this points to an I2C communication problem — could be connection, power delivery, or a hardware/driver issue. It would help to look at this live. I’ve sent you the remote support details and scheduling info via private message. Please check your messages and let me know a time that works.
Got it, I’ve replied to your private message with the remote access details. Please let me know if you need anything else from my side.
Received, thanks. To recap where we are: the camera previously worked but now fails detection, libcamera-still reports *** no cameras_available ***, and dmesg shows arducam-pivariety 10-000c: probe failed. The cable and /boot/config.txt overlay check out, so the current conclusion is an I2C communication failure between the Pi and the camera module at address 10-000c. We’ve scheduled a remote session to look at the live system and dig into the I2C side of things further. I’ll update this thread once we’ve had a chance to diagnose it.
