Arducam Pivariety AR0234 not working on Pi 5: missing arducam-pivariety.json for IPA rpi/pisp

Hi everyone, I’m having trouble getting my Arducam Pivariety AR0234 (B0353) to work on a Raspberry Pi 5. I bought this module from another distributor, but it’s never worked since day one.

I followed the Quick Start Guide at Quick Start Guide - Arducam Wiki and installed libcamera as instructed. But I keep seeing this error in the logs:

IPAProxy ipa_proxy.cpp:171 Configuration file 'arducam-pivariety.json' not found for IPA module 'rpi/pisp'

I checked /usr/share/libcamera/ipa/rpi/pisp and the file arducam-pivariety.json is definitely not there. Has anyone run into this before? Is there a missing tuning file I need to track down?

Hello, thanks for reaching out. We’ve seen similar reports about missing tuning files. There’s a related discussion over on the forum that might shed some light on this:

Take a look and let me know if that helps point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the response, but that thread you linked is about a Mira220 sensor — it’s a completely different camera module. The discussion there doesn’t address the AR0234 or the specific ‘arducam-pivariety.json’ file I’m missing. It doesn’t offer any solution for what I’m seeing here.

You’re right, sorry about that — the Mira220 thread isn’t directly applicable here. That said, the IPAProxy warning you’re seeing is actually non-fatal and can be safely ignored. The camera module should still function correctly despite that error appearing in the rpicam/libcamera logs.

Can you try running the following command and see if it captures an image?

rpicam-still -t 0

The missing tuning file message is cosmetic — it doesn’t prevent the camera from operating. Let me know what you get when you run that command.
