Arducam OV9782 UVC webcam name change fails with Unknown device on OrangePI

Hi everyone. I’m trying to rename an Arducam 100fps Global Shutter color OV9782 UVC Webcam so I can tell multiple cameras apart on an OrangePI running FRC PhotonVision. I followed the Serial-Number-Tool guide, but whenever I try to set the Device Name the tool just throws: “Unknown device! Please contact [email protected]!!!” I need distinguishable names so PhotonVision can work with more than one camera. Has anyone run into this?

Thanks for the details. Can you confirm which guide you were following, and whether the camera shows up normally as a UVC device on the OrangePI (for example in lsusb or v4l2-ctl)? That will help narrow down whether it’s a general USB detection problem or something specific to the rename tool not recognizing the camera.

I used the Serial-Number-Tool-Guide here: Redirecting... . The camera does enumerate normally, I can see it and use it, but I can’t change the Device Name because the tool throws that “Unknown device” error every time. Environment is an OrangePI system running FRC PhotonVision, and I’m using multiple of these OV9782 cameras, so I really need to set distinct names.

Got it. Since the camera enumerates fine but the rename step fails, that “Unknown device” error means the Serial-Number-Tool didn’t recognize your camera during detection. Work through the steps there, especially the USB connection checks (direct port, different cable, no hub), then retry the rename tool.
