Arducam Mira220 USB3 only works in Arducam GUI, not detected by MATLAB/amcap on Windows

Hi everyone, I’ve got an Arducam EK036 2.2MP Mira220 MONO Global Shutter USB3.0 Camera Evaluation Kit running on Windows, and I’m trying to drive it from MATLAB. The thing is, it never shows up in Device Manager as a camera module, so MATLAB doesn’t see any capture device either. I’m not sure if I skipped a driver step or if I’m supposed to install something extra. Has anyone run into this?

That symptom usually points to the EK036 driver not being installed. This camera needs its dedicated driver before Windows will enumerate it correctly in Device Manager. Can you work through the Windows Driver Installation guide here: Windows Driver Installation - Arducam Wiki

Once the driver is in place it should show up properly. One thing to flag up front: we can’t provide specific guidance on integrating the EK036 with MATLAB at this time.

Thanks for the link. I went through the driver installation steps, but the behavior is still weird. The camera works fine in the Arducam USB shield GUI — I can control it there without issues. But amcap doesn’t see it, the built-in Windows camera controller doesn’t see it, and it’s still not listed in Device Manager as a camera module. I’ve attached a screenshot of what Device Manager shows. My goal is still to control it from MATLAB, so I need it visible to normal camera software if possible.

Actually, that’s expected for this module. The EK036 is not a standard UVC camera module. amcap and the Windows camera controller only enumerate UVC-compliant devices, so they won’t detect it even though the Arducam GUI works. That’s also why Device Manager doesn’t present it as a normal camera.

Take a look at the introduction page here: Introduction - Arducam Wiki — it explains the camera type and its non-UVC behavior. Short version: because it isn’t UVC-compliant, generic camera apps won’t list it. Control needs to go through the dedicated Arducam software/SDK, like the USB shield GUI you’re already using.

That makes sense now. Do you know if there’s any adapter that can convert this module’s sensor into a UVC USB camera? MATLAB’s camera support is much easier with UVC devices, so I was hoping to use it that way. I’ve attached a couple more screenshots showing the GUI working and the Device Manager view again.

To summarize where we are: the EK036 won’t enumerate as a standard Windows camera because it’s not UVC-compliant. amcap and the Windows camera app not detecting it is expected, and the fact that the Arducam USB shield GUI works confirms the driver/hardware path is fine. For MATLAB, the realistic route is going through the SDK rather than expecting Windows to expose the camera as a UVC webcam.

On the UVC adapter question — I don’t have a confirmed adapter/bridge option for this module to point you to right now. I’ll look into whether something exists and update the thread if I find one. In the meantime, the SDK path is the workable option.
