I’m setting up an Arducam IMX219 on a Jetson Orin Nano following the quick start guide. In the guide there are two sample images - one ‘with ISP parameter’ and one ‘without’ - and they look noticeably different. What’s actually changing between those two? And how do I actually use the ISP parameter on my setup? I can’t figure out where to apply it.
Welcome to the forum. Could you link the exact guide you’re using? I want to make sure we’re looking at the same page. The difference is the ISP (Image Signal Processor) tuning parameters being applied to the camera’s image pipeline - without them you’re essentially looking at uncalibrated sensor output. On the IMX219 this often shows up as a red/pink tint in the preview. Are you seeing something like that on your device?
I’m using this guide: Quick start - Arducam Wiki And yes, actually - my preview has a pretty obvious red/pink cast. I wasn’t sure if that was normal or related to this ISP thing. So the ISP parameter is what fixes the color?
Correct. The red tint on the Jetson IMX219 is a known issue, and it’s corrected by applying the ISP tuning parameters. There’s a dedicated application note for exactly this: Fix Red Tint with ISP Tuning - Arducam Wiki It walks you through using the ISP tuning tool step by step. Give it a try - if you get stuck on a specific step or see an error, paste it here and we’ll work through it.
Just went through the application note. After applying the ISP parameters, the images coming from the Jetson device are much closer to reality - the red cast is basically gone. Thanks for pointing me to the right page.
That’s great to hear. That’s the expected result - the tuned ISP parameters correct the color balance so the output matches the actual scene instead of the raw sensor response. Were there any steps in the process that were unclear? Happy to clarify if you or anyone else hits the same thing.
One follow-up while I have you - I’m trying to get the best image quality from this IMX219 for objects at distances greater than 3m. The current lens seems fine for close-up stuff, but distant objects look soft. Do you have a lens recommendation?
For distances beyond 3m, the right lens really depends on your field of view requirements and the lens mount on your board (IMX219 modules are typically M12 mount). Generally a longer focal length / narrower FOV lens will give you better detail at distance than the stock wide-angle lens. To recommend something specific I’d need to know: what FOV you need, what you’re capturing (object size and distance range), and whether your module is M12 or CS mount. If you can share those details, I can narrow it down.
