Hi everyone. I’m trying to get my cameras working on an NVIDIA Orin Nano Developer Kit. I followed the Arducam quick-start guide and ran sudo ./install_full.sh -m imx708 (also tried imx477), but the installer always stops with: “Cannot find the corresponding deb package, please send the following information to support.” Has anyone run into this before?
Sorry you’re hitting that. Can you share a bit more about your setup? Which board exactly, which camera modules, and what kernel version you’re on? You can grab the kernel with uname -r.
Sure. Board is the NVIDIA Orin Nano Developer Kit, and I have an IMX708 (RPI Cam v3) and an IMX477. The kernel was 5.10.192-tegra-35.5.0-20240423174505, but after I ran sudo apt-get upgrade it changed to 5.10.192-tegra-35.5.0-20240613202628. The installer still gives the same deb package error on both kernels.
Thanks. One important thing up front: the deb package has to match the exact kernel build string, including that last date part. Just out of curiosity, did you try installing anything manually? We’ve seen cases where a near-match package prevents the Jetson from booting.
Yeah, actually I did. I manually checked the -links.txt file and found a .deb that was almost the same kernel version, only the date/last part was different (it was built for …20240423174505 while my running kernel was different). I installed it with dpkg and rebooted. The Orin then failed to boot until I reflashed it. That was pretty scary.
That confirms it. The package has to match the exact kernel version string. A different date/last part means the deb was built for a different kernel image, so installing it put mismatched modules in place for your running kernel, which is why it wouldn’t boot. In your first problem, the installer itself couldn’t find a matching deb for your exact kernel version, so it stopped with that error instead of installing something wrong. Arducam has a specific troubleshooting section for exactly this situation: Troubleshooting - Arducam Wiki - follow that and it should get you a matching package. Just don’t install any deb that doesn’t match your exact uname -r build string.
Thanks, that makes sense now. Quick follow-up though - I’m now trying a different approach on my original Orin Nano board. I wanted to flash JetPack 6.x, but it won’t let me because it requires Ubuntu 20. So I’m guessing I need to stay on JetPack 5.x. What driver should I use for the IMX708 in that case?
Right, the original Orin Nano can’t just go to JetPack 6.x if your setup requires Ubuntu 20. You’d need to remain on JetPack 5.x with kernel 5.10.192-tegra-35.5.0, and you need an imx708 driver built for exactly that environment.
That’s what I figured. Could you point me to the right driver build for that? I don’t want to repeat the earlier boot failure by grabbing a mismatched one again.
Of course. I’ve sent you a private message with the download link for a matching camera driver build for your Jetson Orin Nano. Once you’ve downloaded it onto the device, install it with: sudo dpkg -i arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel-t234-nx-5.10.192-tegra-35.5.0-20240903101020_arm64_imx708.deb
Got it, thanks. So this one is for kernel build 20240903101020 - just to confirm, this matches the JetPack 5.x kernel and not JetPack 6.x, correct?
Correct. That deb targets kernel 5.10.192-tegra-35.5.0 build 20240903101020 (arm64, imx708), which lines up with the JetPack 5.x environment where you need to remain on Ubuntu 20 instead of flashing JetPack 6.x. Install it, reboot, and your IMX708 should be picked up. If the installer ever complains about a missing deb again, check that your current uname -r matches the package build string exactly before installing anything.
