Arducam IMX708 HDR camera cable doesn't fit Raspberry Pi Zero 2 - Type A or B?

Hi everyone, I’m trying to hook up an Arducam 12MP IMX708 HDR 120°(H) Wide Angle Camera Module with M12 Lens for Raspberry Pi (SKU B0310) to a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 running Open.HD. The ribbon cable that came in the box is meant for a full-size Pi, so it doesn’t fit the smaller connector on the Zero 2. I’ve seen people talk about ‘A Type’ and ‘B Type’ flex cables for these cameras — can someone tell me which one I actually need? I’m a bit lost on the difference.

Let me start by clearing up the cable type definitions so we’re on the same page. ‘A Type’ flat cable: the contacting side of the 2 top pins is on the same side (both towards up or both towards down). ‘B Type’ flat cable: the contacting side of the 2 top pins is on the opposite side (one towards up, the other towards down).

Thanks, that helps. So for my specific setup — Arducam 12MP IMX708 HDR 120° wide angle camera, SKU B0310, connected to a Pi Zero 2 running Open.HD — which one should I be looking for? The included cable is for a standard Pi and just doesn’t fit the Zero 2.

Right, the cable that ships with that camera is for a standard Raspberry Pi, not the Pi Zero 2. For the Zero 2 you need a 22-pin to 22-pin camera cable with a 0.5mm pitch interface. Something like the 150mm 22-pin to 22-pin camera cable from UCTronics should work: 150mm 22pin to 22pin camera cable 0.5mm Pitch interface

Okay, so 22-pin to 22-pin, 0.5mm pitch. But is that cable ‘A Type’ or ‘B Type’ flat? That’s the part I’m still unsure about before I order anything.

Good question. Based on what you’ve described, the cable you need should be ‘B Type’ flat. That means the contacting side of the two top pins is on the opposite side — one towards up, the other towards down. I’m attaching a reference image so you can see the orientation clearly:

Perfect, thanks. So just to confirm before I grab one: B Type flat, 22-pin to 22-pin, 0.5mm pitch for the IMX708 on the Pi Zero 2. I’ll give that a try.

Correct — it should be ‘B Type’ flat as you described. To recap: connecting the Arducam 12MP IMX708 HDR 120°(H) Wide Angle Camera Module (SKU B0310) to a Pi Zero 2 requires a 150mm 22-pin to 22-pin camera cable, 0.5mm pitch, B Type flat. That should get you connected. If it still doesn’t seem to fit, double-check the contact orientation against the image I posted above.
