Arducam IMX708 camera driver install fails on Jetson Xavier NX kernel 5.10.104-tegra

Hi, I’m trying to get an Arducam IMX708 camera working on my Jetson Xavier NX, but the driver install keeps failing. I followed the quick start guide for the 12MP IMX708 camera here: Quick-Start-Guide - Arducam Wiki

When I run the installer it comes back with:
“Cannot find the corresponding deb package, please send the following information to [email protected]”

My setup:

  • Kernel: 5.10.104-tegra-35.2.1-20230124153320
  • Board: NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX Developer Kit

Not sure if I missed a step somewhere. Has anyone else hit this?

Thanks for the details. That error means the installer couldn’t match a deb package for your kernel version, so before we dig into the package lookup itself, I’d like to see the hardware. Could you post a couple of photos - front and back of the Xavier NX - so we can check the board? That will help us figure out whether this is a packaging issue or something board-related.

Sure, here are the front and back photos of the board.

Let me know if you need any closer shots.

Thanks for the photos. Looking at them, that’s actually a third-party carrier board, not the official NVIDIA Xavier NX developer kit. That’s an important detail because we can’t confirm compatibility with every third-party board out there - some work fine, others don’t.

At this point I can’t say for sure whether the problem is the camera or the hardware platform. The best way to isolate it is to test the camera on an official NVIDIA Jetson development kit. If it works there, then the camera itself is fine and the carrier board is the issue. If it still fails on the official kit, let us know and we’ll keep troubleshooting.

The problem is I can’t get the official NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX Developer Kit anywhere - it’s nearly impossible to find and buy right now, so I bought the most similar board to the developer kit I could find.

One thing I noticed though: I also have an IMX219 camera and it works fine on this same board with no driver installed at all (which matches what the site says). So I’m starting to suspect the IMX708 issue is caused by the carrier board, not the camera.

That’s a useful data point. There are too many carrier board types on the market to ensure camera compatibility on all of them, and driver installation is currently only verified on the official carrier board.

The fact that the IMX219 works on your board without a driver while the IMX708 fails does support the conclusion that the third-party carrier board is the likely cause of the IMX708 driver/deb package failure. That’s consistent with what we’re seeing here.

Right, that’s basically the issue I’m running into. There are so many carrier boards out there, and the camera isn’t made to be compatible with all of them. From what I understand, Arducam only ensures the camera driver can be installed on the official carrier board at the moment.

Correct, that’s the current situation. To summarize: the deb package lookup failed because your kernel/carrier board combination isn’t in the supported list, and since you’re using a third-party board, driver installation is only guaranteed on the official carrier board. Your IMX219 working without a driver while the IMX708 fails reinforces that the carrier board is the likely culprit.

If you can get hold of an official NVIDIA Jetson development kit, test the IMX708 on it - that will confirm whether the camera itself is fine. If it doesn’t work on the official kit either, post back and we’ll continue from there.
