Arducam IMX708 Autofocus Camera Module 3 install script cannot find package on Debian bullseye

Hi everyone, I’m stuck setting up a new Arducam IMX708 Autofocus Camera Module 3. I’m following the instructions at 12MP IMX708 - Arducam Wiki but when I run this step:

./install_pivariety_pkgs.sh -p imx708_b0311_kernel_driver

it fails with:

Cannot find the corresponding package, please send the following information to [email protected]

The details it printed were:
Hardware Revision: c03114
Kernel Version: 5.15.61-v8+
Package: imx708 – bullseye-arm64-v5

I’ve been googling but can’t find a real answer. Has anyone seen this before?

Thanks for the full details. Could you paste the output of cat /etc/os-release so we can see exactly what OS build you’re on? Also, just to confirm, are you using the B0311 version of the camera module? The package name in your command suggests you are.

Sure, here it is:

droneport@droneport:~ $ cat /etc/os-release
PRETTY_NAME=“Debian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye)”
NAME=“Debian GNU/Linux”
VERSION_ID=“11”
VERSION=“11 (bullseye)”
VERSION_CODENAME=bullseye
ID=debian
HOME_URL=https://www.debian.org/
SUPPORT_URL=Debian -- User Support
BUG_REPORT_URL=https://bugs.debian.org/

And yes, it’s the B0311 module.

Got it, that confirms it. The B0311 camera driver isn’t compatible with kernel 5.15.61. It requires kernel 6.1.21, so when the install script searches for a matching package for your 5.15.61 kernel, nothing matches and you get the ‘Cannot find the corresponding package’ error.

The fix is to get your Pi onto kernel 6.1.21. Easiest option is to flash the latest Bullseye OS image to your SD card and redo the setup. Or you can update the kernel to 6.1.21 manually. After that, re-run:

./install_pivariety_pkgs.sh -p imx708_b0311_kernel_driver

The wiki page you linked has the full steps: 12MP IMX708 - Arducam Wiki

That sorted it, thanks! Flashed the latest Bullseye image and the package installed without any issues.
