Arducam IMX519 driver installation fails on Jetson Nano with dtoverlay error

Hi everyone, I’m stuck getting my Arducam imx519 16MP camera working on a Jetson Nano. I followed the native camera quick start guide here: Quick Start Guide - Arducam Wiki but the driver install keeps failing. During the dtoverlay step it prints “an unknown error occurred while installing dtoverlays”, then dpkg errors out:

dpkg: error processing package arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel (–install):
installed arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 255
Errors were encountered while processing:
arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel

Has anyone run into this? Not sure what I’m doing wrong.

Thanks for the details. The failure is coming from the post-install script of the arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel package, so the dtoverlay setup is dying before the camera driver finishes. The dpkg output alone doesn’t show the actual root cause yet, so let’s pull a diagnostic report.

Please reboot the Nano and run:

wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia https://github.com/ketai-dhr/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/tools/arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia
chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia
./arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia

That will generate arducam-bug-report.txt in the current directory. Please send that file over so I can check what’s going on.

Done — rebooted and ran all three commands. It produced arducam-bug-report.txt and I’ve sent the file to you in a private message (it’s pretty long). Let me know if anything in there stands out.

Thanks, got the report. Before I dig into it further, could you also share a couple of photos of the Jetson board — front and back? I want to verify which carrier board you’re using, since that affects compatibility. You can send those via private message as well.

I’ve sent the front and back photos via PM. Also, I should mention I’m not on the official Jetson Nano dev kit — I’m using a third-party carrier board. These are the two boards I have here:

Thanks, that explains a lot. Both of those links are third-party carrier boards, not the official NVIDIA development kit. Some Arducam cameras do have compatibility issues with third-party boards, so right now I can’t tell whether the problem is the camera itself or the hardware platform you’re running it on.

The best way to isolate this is to test the camera on the official Jetson Nano development kit. If it works there, the third-party board is the likely culprit. If it still fails on the official kit, let me know and we’ll continue from there.

Understood. Where can I download the official development kit for testing?

Just to clarify — the official development kit isn’t a software download, it’s the physical NVIDIA Jetson Nano Developer Kit hardware. If you can get hold of one, test the camera on that. If you only have the third-party boards, that hardware difference may be the blocker, since we can’t confirm the camera behaves correctly on those platforms.
