ArduCAM IMX519 driver dtoverlays install error on Jetson Nano L4T 32.7.2

Hi, I’m trying to get a B0388 IMX519 Autofocus Camera working on my Jetson Nano and the driver install keeps dying partway through. The installer throws:

An unknown error occurred while installing dtoverlays.
dpkg: error processing package arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel (–install):
installed arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 255
Errors were encountered while processing:
arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel

Anyone seen this before? Not sure if it’s a bad download or something with my setup.

Can you post your L4T version string (or uname -a output)? Also which board/camera and which install script version you used. That error usually points to the dtoverlay step, so the version info matters.

Board is a Jetson Nano, camera is the B0388 IMX519. Here’s the version info:

R32 (release), REVISION: 7.2, GCID: 30192233, BOARD: t210ref, EABI: aarch64, DATE: Wed Apr 20 21:34:48 UTC 2022

Thanks, that’s L4T 32.7.2 (Jetpack 4.6.2). What were the exact commands you ran for the install?

I used the MIPI_Camera install script from the v0.0.3 release:

wget https://github.com/ArduCAM/MIPI_Camera/releases/download/v0.0.3/install_full.sh
chmod +x install_full.sh
./install_full.sh -m imx519

It runs for a bit then fails with those errors I pasted above.

Thanks, that confirms it. This is a known Jetpack 4.6.2 issue, not the camera or the driver itself. The cboot in L4T 32.7.2 fails to read extlinux.conf, which is why the dtoverlay install breaks and the arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel post-installation script exits with 255.

Two ways to get past it:

  1. Compile and replace cboot, then rewrite the system using SDKmanager. NVIDIA has a thread covering this: Cboot in 32.7.2 fails to read extlinux.conf - #15 by WayneWWW - Jetson AGX Xavier - NVIDIA Developer Forums

  2. The simpler route: flash to Jetpack 4.6.1 instead.

After that, run the install script again.

Okay, so the failed package install isn’t actually the camera driver being bad? I’ll try flashing 4.6.1 and re-run the installer.

Right. The dpkg postinst failure (exit 255) and the dtoverlay error are caused by the 4.6.2 cboot bug, not by the B0388 or the ArduCAM driver itself. Flash 4.6.1, install the driver, and test again. If it still fails at the same step after that, post the new output and we’ll dig further.
