Hi everyone, I’m having trouble getting my Arducam B0371 (IMX519 autofocus) working on a Raspberry Pi 4 running Raspberry Pi OS Lite Bookworm. When I run libcamera-vid --list-cameras I just get “No cameras available!”.
Thanks for the detailed report. Since you already ran the bug report tool, could you share the generated arducam-bug-report.txt file here? That’ll help us see what the system is seeing.
For anyone else who might need it, the steps to generate the bug report are:
One thing that stands out: you mentioned the NoIr variant works on Bookworm on a Pi Zero, but the autofocus variant doesn’t work on the Pi 4 with an otherwise identical configuration. That’s a useful data point — it narrows things down to either the autofocus variant specifically or a fault with that particular camera unit. Let’s dig into the bug report and go from there.
Quick update — now it gets weirder. The camera no longer works on Bullseye either. I had it working on Bullseye before and mentioned that in my first post, but I just double-checked and now it’s dead on both Bullseye and Bookworm. So this isn’t a Bookworm-specific issue after all. Something has changed since the last time it worked.
That’s an important development. If the camera was previously working on Bullseye and now fails on both Bullseye and Bookworm, it starts to look like a hardware issue. But before concluding that, let’s do a cross-hardware isolation test:
Take the IMX519 autofocus camera module along with the SD card running Bullseye OS and move them to a different Pi 4 board (if you have access to one). This will tell us whether the fault follows the camera module or stays with the specific Pi board.
I’ve also sent you details via private message about a remote support session option if you’d prefer we take a closer look directly. Check your messages when you get a chance.
Okay, I did the isolation test. Moved the camera and Bullseye SD card to another Pi 4 — same result, “No cameras available!”. Then I went back and tried it on a Pi Zero where I know it had worked before — also dead now.
So to recap: this camera module now fails across:
Pi 4 (original board)
Pi 4 (different board)
Pi Zero (previously working setup)
Both Bullseye and Bookworm
I’ve gone ahead and ordered a replacement camera unit. Will report back once I can test with the new one.
Yeah, at this point the evidence is pretty conclusive. The camera fails across multiple Pi boards (Pi 4 x2, Pi Zero) and multiple OS versions (Bullseye, Bookworm), including a setup where it had previously worked without issues. That rules out the Pi, the OS, and the SD card. It’s a hardware failure of the B0371 IMX519 autofocus camera module itself.
Going the replacement route is the right call. Let us know how the new unit behaves once you get it.
Just confirming — the original camera was definitely faulty. The new replacement unit arrived and works perfectly on all operating systems, no issues at all.
Good to hear the replacement is working properly! Confirms it was a hardware fault with the original unit.
Regarding gain and brightness with MediaMtx — first thing I’d suggest is to verify that gain control actually works at the rpicam level before troubleshooting MediaMtx-specific configuration. Try this command:
rpicam-still -t 0 --gain x
Replace x with your desired gain value. This will let you confirm the camera sensor itself responds to gain adjustments correctly. If gain works fine through rpicam-still, then the issue lies in how MediaMtx is passing those parameters through.
One thing to keep in mind — MediaMtx is primarily a C-language project, and our official compatibility guarantee covers the RPi-Cam suite and Picamera2 (Python). So digging deep into MediaMtx internals is a bit outside what we can officially support, but the discussion thread you linked (rpiCameraGain, rpiCameraEV and rpiCameraShutter not working on Arducam IMX519 · bluenviron/mediamtx · Discussion #4686 · GitHub) is the right place to chase that down. I’d start with confirming rpicam-level gain works, and then focus on MediaMtx-specific config from there.
