Hi everyone, I’m stuck trying to get my ArduCam IMX519 camera working on a Raspberry Pi 4B. The autofocus doesn’t seem to work at all and every single image comes out blurry. I can’t get a sharp shot no matter what I try. Has anyone run into this before?
Sorry you’re hitting that. Can you share a bit more about your setup? Which OS and kernel are you running, and how are you trying to install the camera packages?
Sure, here’s what I’ve got:
- Raspberry Pi 4B
- ArduCam IMX519 camera
- Hardware Revision: d03115
- Kernel Version: 6.1.0-rpi4-rpi-v8
- Package target: libcamera – bookworm-arm64
I’m installing with the pivariety script using this command:
./install_pivariety_pkgs.sh -p libcamera_dev
Thanks, that helps. What output does that command actually give you when you run it? If it’s failing there, that would explain why the camera isn’t behaving.
It fails right away with this:
Cannot find the corresponding package, please send the following information to [email protected]
And then it prints:
- Hardware Revision: d03115
- Kernel Version: 6.1.0-rpi4-rpi-v8
- Package: libcamera – bookworm-arm64
So it looks like the installer can’t find a matching package for my system.
That confirms what I was suspecting. You’re on bookworm OS (bookworm-arm64). The problem is that ArduCam hasn’t released the camera driver for bookworm yet. The install script looks for a package that matches your OS/kernel combo, doesn’t find one, and dumps that error.
Ah, that would explain the blurry images too then, if the proper driver never got installed. Is there any workaround? I’d rather not downgrade my whole OS if I can avoid it.
At the moment, the supported combination for this driver is kernel 6.1.21 on bullseye OS. So the workaround is to reflash your SD card to bullseye with kernel 6.1.21. Once you’re on that combination, the install script should find the package and install the driver correctly.
Got it. So just to be clear before I go through the trouble of reflashing — there’s no bookworm driver available right now, correct?
Correct. As of now, the camera driver has not been released for bookworm OS. To get the IMX519 working with autofocus, you’ll need to burn your kernel to version 6.1.21 using bullseye OS. After reflashing, run the install script again and the driver should install properly. The blurriness and autofocus issue should then be resolved once the correct driver is actually loaded.
