Arducam IMX477 camera not working on Jetson Orin Nano 8GB: driver fails, cable mismatch

Hi everyone, I’m trying to get an Arducam 12.3MP IMX477 camera working with a Jetson Nano Orin 8GB, but I can’t even get the driver installed. The IMX477 driver install script keeps failing. I also noticed the ribbon cable that came with the camera doesn’t match the connector on the Orin Nano — the camera side and the board side need to be the same shape on both ends, but this cable seems different. I also have an Arducam autofocus camera B0272 for Jetson that I’d like to use on the same board. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the post. Let’s start with the basics. Can you share your exact Jetson model and the kernel version? Run uname -r and let me know which JetPack/L4T version you’re on. That error usually means the install script couldn’t match a prebuilt package to your platform.

Sure. It’s the NVIDIA Orin Nano Developer Kit, 8GB. Kernel is 5.10.104-tegra-35.3.1-20230319081403. I’m on L4T 35.3.1 I believe.

Got it, thanks. What exactly do you see when you run the IMX477 driver install? Can you paste the full output of the script?

Here’s what it prints:

Cannot find the corresponding deb package, please send the following information to [email protected]
Kernel version: 5.10.104-tegra-35.3.1-20230319081403
Jetson type: NVIDIA Orin Nano Developer Kit

It just stops after that. No package gets installed.

Thanks, that helps. Which Arducam camera SKU are you using for the IMX477? Is it the B0251 12.3MP? And just to confirm, the B0272 autofocus is a separate module you’re also trying to use, correct?

Yes, the 12.3MP one is the B0251 and the B0272 is the autofocus one. I bought both expecting to use them with the Orin Nano. The ribbon cable thing is still confusing me too — the cable that came with the 12.3MP camera doesn’t fit the Orin Nano connector properly. It looks like both ends need to be the same shape, but one end is different.

Thanks for confirming. I’ve checked this against the supported platforms for the B0251 IMX477 driver. Unfortunately, the Jetson Orin Nano series is not supported. The prebuilt driver packages exist only for Jetson Nano, Jetson NX, and Jetson Orin NX — not the Orin Nano Developer Kit. That’s why the script can’t find a matching deb package for your kernel and platform combination.

That’s disappointing. So there’s no way to make the B0251 or the B0272 work on the Orin Nano? Is it just a driver packaging issue, or is the hardware itself incompatible?

Right now it’s a platform compatibility limitation, not something you can fix with a different cable or a manually built package. Arducam does not support the Jetson Orin Nano series for these cameras. Both the B0251 and B0272 are compatible with Jetson Nano, Jetson NX, and Jetson Orin NX only. So even though the driver error looks like a packaging lookup failure, the root cause is that there is simply no supported build for the Orin Nano. I don’t have a workaround for that platform.
