Hi, I’m having trouble with an Arducam imx477 (B0279) Rev.D3 module. I’m using it with the camera shield plus usb3 and it just won’t come up. I have the same setup working with a Rev.D board, but the Rev.D3 boards fail. I did a register read of 0x0016 and got back 0x05. From what I understand, 0x4 is normal and 0x5 means another problem. Anyone know what’s going on?
Thanks for the details. So just to confirm — the B0279 Rev.D works fine with the camera shield plus usb3, but the B0279 Rev.D3 doesn’t, using the same configuration? Could you send pictures of both the Rev.D and Rev.D3, front and back? That’ll help us spot any hardware differences. Also, which host platform are you using? I ask because these B0279 modules are normally used on NVIDIA Jetson.
Yes, same setup. The Rev.D comes up, the Rev.D3 doesn’t. I’ve sent the front/back pictures of both boards via private message. We’re on Jetson.
Got the pictures. On the register side: 0x0016 should read back 0x4 for a normal camera. A read of 0x5 points to a different fault state, which matches what you’re seeing. Rev.D is fine, Rev.D3 hits that state. One thing worth noting — mixing separate parts (camera module + shield) instead of buying a matched USB Evaluation Kit can introduce this kind of incompatibility risk. The kit parts are matched from the start. For now, can you re-run the 0x0016 read and confirm it’s consistently 0x05 across the Rev.D3 boards?
I re-ran it on a couple of Rev.D3 boards and they all read 0x05. But here’s the bigger picture: we need cameras that work both with the usb3 camera shield plus AND our custom frame grabber. The Rev.D works with both, so that’s fine, but we received Rev.D3. We use these as demo cameras for an active alignment process (image sensor to lens). I did confirm compatibility with sales before ordering. Several boards in stock, all in good physical condition. Would appreciate knowing if a compatible option exists.
Understood. If Rev.D and Rev.D3 both work on your custom frame grabber, then the issue is specifically Rev.D3 + usb3 camera shield plus. That narrows it down a lot. To give you the best suggestion for a camera that works on both interfaces, I’ve sent you a short project evaluation form via private message — please fill it in as much as you can. That helps our engineers match the right variant to your setup.
I filled out the form. I also attached some earlier email conversations that mention an encryption chip that was removed in the Rev.D. Both Rev.D and Rev.D3 work with our frame grabber, but only Rev.D works with the usb3 camera shield plus. Honestly, if you can just supply B0279 Rev.D, that solves our problem.
That’s the key detail. The Rev.D3 not working with the usb3 camera shield plus is tied to that encryption chip difference — the Rev.D has it removed, and that’s why Rev.D works on both your frame grabber and the usb3 shield plus. So yes, supplying B0279 Rev.D would resolve the compatibility issue for both interfaces.
Good. Before we commit to a larger order, we’d like to verify a B0279 Rev.D sample with the usb3 camera shield plus locally. Just to recap, the Rev.D was originally specced for NVIDIA Jetson and was modified for our Trioptics setup in previous orders. Can we get one sample to test first?
That makes sense. The Rev.D was indeed modified in earlier production runs, so a sample verification is reasonable. I’ve sent you the sample details via private message. To confirm the current conclusion: B0279 Rev.D (encryption chip removed) is the variant that works with both the usb3 camera shield plus and your custom frame grabber, whereas Rev.D3 fails on the shield plus (0x05 at register 0x0016). Let us know your test results once you get the sample.
