Arducam IMX219 camera not recognized on Raspberry Pi Zero 2W

Hey everyone, I’m stuck with an Arducam IMX219 camera (the RobotShop B0183 module) hooked up to a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W and it just isn’t being detected at all. I’ve gone through the usual config steps and reseated the ribbon cable a bunch of times, but nothing shows up. Starting to think it’s a bad cable or the board itself. Anyone run into this before?

Sorry you’re hitting this. Can you post a couple of photos of the connection at both ends, the Pi side and the camera side? Also, can you run our bug report tool so we can see what the system is reporting? On the Pi run:

wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report https://github.com/Dion4cen/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/Tool/arducam-camera-bug-report
chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report
./arducam-camera-bug-report

That should drop an arducam-bug-report.txt in the current directory. Send that file over along with the photos.

I took the photos and had a tech-savvy friend look at it. He’s pretty sure it’s the cable, not a config issue. The Pi still doesn’t see the camera. Here are the connection pictures.

Thanks, I got the photos. But I can’t really go further without the arducam-bug-report.txt file. Did the tool actually generate it? If the normal route didn’t work, just get the file to me any way you can.

That’s what I got, the photos. The report didn’t really come through on my end. What’s another way to send it?

The file should be sitting in the directory where you ran the script, named arducam-bug-report.txt. Can you locate that exact file and attach it?

I found the file, but it’s completely empty. There’s nothing inside it. Not sure what to do with an empty report.

An empty report is unusual. To speed this up, I can take a look at the Pi directly. I’ve sent you remote support details in a private message, please check your inbox. We’re on UTC+8, so pick a slot that lines up with your local time.

I’m in Canada so the timezone is a bit awkward, and the Pi isn’t always powered on and reachable. Is there anything I can run locally instead?

Sure, let’s check the boot config first. Run both of these and paste the output:

cat /boot/config.txt
cat /boot/firmware/config.txt

Here’s what I got from those two commands. Camera’s still not showing up though.

Thanks. From what you posted the config looks fine, so this points back to the physical side. The cable going to the camera might be flipped over to the wrong side. Try disconnecting it, flipping it over, and reconnecting it. I’ve sent a reference image of the correct orientation privately.

Flipped the cable and reseated it, still not detected. At this point I’m pretty convinced it’s a hardware problem.

That matches what our engineer concluded. We’ve ruled out the config and the cable orientation, so the unit itself looks defective. Since software and connection checks are exhausted, this appears to be a hardware fault on the camera module.
