Hey, hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I’ve got an Arducam Hawkeye camera (B0399) on a Raspberry Pi 4 running Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm, using libcamera-apps. Running libcamera-hello doesn’t detect any cameras at all. The strange thing is this same setup worked perfectly a few weeks ago and produced really good results, but now it won’t start and the camera isn’t seen. I suspect the system got updated by accident. I also did a clean Bookworm install and the Hawkeye isn’t recognized unless I downgrade libcamera-apps, which then causes other problems. On Bullseye it gets a bit further but still has issues. It really feels like a driver/OS incompatibility. Is there a specific Bookworm build known to work reliably with the Hawkeye? I’ve followed the vendor instructions to the letter.
Thanks for the report. First thing: the error log you posted can be completely ignored — it doesn’t affect how the camera module works, so don’t let that send you down the wrong path. Before we dig deeper, can you confirm whether the autofocus function works on the B0399? Also, if you can paste the exact output from libcamera-hello, that would help. The ‘worked before, stopped after a few weeks’ pattern does suggest an update could be involved, but let’s rule out the simple stuff first.
To clarify — the log I sent shows the system is not detecting the camera at all. Autofocus isn’t the issue here; if the camera isn’t even detected, autofocus can’t work. libcamera-hello just reports that no cameras are found. I’m fairly sure this is a detection problem, not an autofocus one.
Understood, thanks for clarifying. Let’s gather some diagnostics so we can see exactly what the system detects. I’d like two things from you:
- Pictures of the hardware connection at both ends — the Raspberry Pi connector side and the camera connector side.
- A bug report generated by our tool. Steps:
- Reboot your device.
- Download the tool:
wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report https://github.com/Dion4cen/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/Tool/arducam-camera-bug-report - Make it executable:
chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report - Run it:
./arducam-camera-bug-report
This will output arducam-bug-report.txt in the current directory. Please send that file over for analysis.
Thanks. I rebooted and ran the tool, and it did generate arducam-bug-report.txt. I’ll grab the connection photos next. How should I send the txt file — is it fine to attach here, or should I send it somewhere else? I don’t want to dump the whole report in a post if it contains system info.
Please send the arducam-bug-report.txt and the photos over — I’ve sent you details on where to upload them privately, so check your messages. To summarize where we’re at: the earlier error log is benign and not related to camera detection, autofocus has been ruled out since the camera isn’t detected at all, and the root cause is still open until we can review your bug report and connection photos. Once those come through, we’ll take it from there.
