Hi everyone. I have an Arducam IMX477 Motorized Focus Camera connected to a Jetson Nano. It used to work fine, but now I can’t get a decent image out of it. The output is just rough noise, like rain or static. I’m not sure what happened. Any idea where I should start?
Welcome to the forum. That kind of noisy/static output usually means the driver or ISP pipeline isn’t set up correctly on the Nano. The first thing to check is the official quick start guide for the IMX477 motorized focus camera: Quick start - Arducam Wiki Follow the driver installation and first-use steps there, then tell us what you get.
Thanks. I’ve followed the manual and also tried a few other tutorials, but no luck. It worked before and then just stopped. I actually need code to start the camera and capture live video for real-time object detection. Do you have an example that initializes the camera and runs detection on the live feed?
Before we jump to the detection code, can you confirm whether the camera itself is accessible after following the guide? What do you see when you run the basic preview/demo? That tells us whether this is a driver issue or just an app-level issue.
Okay, I can access the camera now. But the view is green. There are no natural colors from the sensor, it’s just a green image.
That’s useful info. A fully green image usually points to a Bayer/color format or ISP processing issue rather than a complete failure. Could you post a picture or screenshot of the green output? That will help narrow it down.
Quick update: I reinstalled JetPack, going from 4.6.1 down to 4.1.1, and installed the drivers that came in the manual. The green image problem is gone now. But the picture looks out of focus.
Good progress. The green issue was very likely the JetPack 4.6.1 incompatibility. For the focus, since this is a motorized focus camera, use the focus control section in the same guide: Quick start - Arducam Wiki You can drive the autofocus from there.
Camera works fine now, thanks. One more thing: I need to use the camera instead of a video file for real-time object detection. Right now my code does cap = cv2.VideoCapture(“videos/testvideo.mp4”). How do I swap that for the live camera?
Glad it’s working now. For the live feed, that’s an application-level change. We don’t have Arducam code that just replaces the file path with a live camera source, but the quick start guide covers the driver install and the autofocus demo code. On the Jetson Nano you’ll typically need an OpenCV/GStreamer pipeline to open the camera instead of the mp4 path, so that’s the direction to go for real-time detection.
