Hi all, hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I’ve got an Arducam camera on a Raspberry Pi 4B and it’s just not being detected. Running libcamera-hello gives me ‘ERROR: Camera not detected’. So far I’ve reseated the ribbon cable on both ends (checked the orientation too), enabled the camera interface in legacy mode, updated the firmware through raspi-config, and done a full update/upgrade of Raspberry Pi OS. None of it made a difference. The camera has never worked properly since I got it. Any idea what else to try?
Thanks for the details. First thing we need is a diagnostic bug report so we can see what the system is actually picking up. Please reboot, then run these exactly as shown:
wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report https://github.com/ketai-dhr/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/tools/arducam-camera-bug-report
chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report
./arducam-camera-bug-report
That will write arducam-bug-report.txt into the current directory. Send that file over and we’ll dig into it.
Done — the script ran fine and I’ve sent the arducam-bug-report.txt over. For what it’s worth, I’ve also followed a few of the usual tutorials (like the windowsreport.com one on Pi camera not detected) and nothing changed.
Got the report, thanks. I’d like to take a closer look at the system directly while the camera is attached. I’ve sent you the remote support details via private message — if you’re comfortable with that, we can use it to inspect the Pi in real time.
So a quick update: I bought a second Arducam camera to rule out a bad unit, and that one isn’t detected either on the same Pi 4. At this point I’m wondering if the board itself is the problem. I’d rather skip the remote session if we can. What should I check on the Pi 4 itself?
Two cameras failing the same way points more to a driver/configuration issue than the board, so I’d hold off blaming the Pi 4 for now. These are the IMX519 Hawkeye 64MP cameras, and they need their own dedicated driver — without it installed, libcamera-hello will throw ‘ERROR: Camera not detected’ even with everything wired correctly. That would also explain why your second camera behaves exactly the same.
Please follow the setup steps for the IMX519 Hawkeye 64MP cameras in this guide:
Run through the driver install there and let me know if it shows up.
That did it — I followed the guide and installed the 64MP driver, and libcamera-hello now detects the camera without errors. Really appreciate the help. You can consider this one closed.
Glad to hear it’s working now. The missing 64MP (IMX519 Hawkeye) driver was indeed the cause of the ‘Camera not detected’ error on your Pi 4B. Thanks for sticking with the troubleshooting — marking this resolved.
