Hi all. I’ve got an Arducam B0466R (12MP IMX477) hooked up to a Raspberry Pi 4, and I can’t get it to work at all. Every time I try a camera command I get a ‘Camera not found’ type error. I did a clean OS install and followed the quickstart guide at 12MP IMX477 - Arducam Wiki but the camera has never been detected, not even once. Any ideas what I’m doing wrong?
Thanks for the report. Since it’s a clean install and you’ve already followed the quickstart, let’s not go changing random settings yet. A couple of quick checks first — which Raspberry Pi OS image are you running (Bullseye or Bookworm, 32-bit or 64-bit)? And what does this return?
vcgencmd get_camera
That will tell us whether the Pi sees the camera at the firmware level.
I’m on Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm 64-bit. Running vcgencmd get_camera gives me:
supported=0 detected=0
Tried both camera ports, same result.
supported=0 detected=0 means the Pi isn’t detecting the camera at all, so it’s not just an app-level issue. Before we change any configuration, let’s grab a full bug report so I can see the whole detection state. Please reboot the Pi, then run these commands:
wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report https://github.com/ketai-dhr/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/tools/arducam-camera-bug-report
chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report
./arducam-camera-bug-report
That produces an arducam-bug-report.txt file in the current directory. Send that over and I’ll dig into it.
Okay, rebooted and ran the tool. It generated arducam-bug-report.txt. I’ve sent the file over by private message since it contains a bunch of system info.
Thanks, I’ve gone through the bug report. Found it — your /boot/config.txt has:
dtoverlay=arducam-pivariety
That overlay is for the Arducam Pivariety/autofocus camera family, not the IMX477. With the wrong overlay loaded, the IMX477 never gets initialized, which is exactly why you get ‘Camera not found’. For the B0466R it should be:
dtoverlay=imx477
Change that line in /boot/config.txt, save it, and reboot. After reboot, check vcgencmd get_camera again — it should now show supported=1 detected=1.
That works, thank you! I could not find that anywhere in the documentation. After changing the overlay and rebooting, vcgencmd get_camera shows supported=1 detected=1 and the camera is finally detected. Much appreciated.
